“They’re a gift. What did I tell you before about refusing gifts?”

Properly admonished, I stayed quiet. I would have to figure out how to deal with work later. “I’ll put these in water.” I went to the kitchen to locate a vase.

Vivienne stayed with Liam, eyeing him in a way that made it obvious, sister or no sister, that she was itching to take my place as his fake girlfriend——or not-so-fake girlfriend.

I finished with the flowers and joined them again.

Liam grinned as he zeroed in on the emerald necklace he’d given me last night. “You changed the chain for a shorter one.” The man didn’t miss a thing.

I had changed it out to raise the stone. I thought it hung too low, drawing the eye too embarrassingly to my cleavage for a business dinner.

“Good choice,” he said. “For tonight. But when we’re alone, you should wear the longer one.” He winked as he motioned toward the door. “Are we ready to go?”

“One quick thing.” I rushed to the bathroom for a Kleenex. My lipstick had rubbed off on him. I reached up and gently cleaned it from his lips.

He stood still while I fussed over him. “Thanks. We wouldn't want people getting the wrong impression, now would we?”

Vivienne giggled.

Exiting my building to the street, I saw that some jerk had parked his sleek sports car in the yellow loading zone and left it there.

Liam walked forward and pushed a button on his rectangular key fob. The sports car unlocked. He opened the passenger door for me. The low-slung silver car was my ride for tonight, and its shape literally dripped sex appeal.

“Holy shit, Liam, this yours?” Vivienne exclaimed.

Liam nodded with a smile.

“Amy, this is a fucking James Bond car,” Vivienne said, informing me of something I already knew.

We had seenCasino Royaletogether, twice. TheDBSstitched into the headrests was a dead giveaway. This was a three-hundred-thousand dollar James Bond Aston Martin with a gazillion horsepower V-12 engine and the looks to turn heads all over town.

I had dreamed of getting a chance to ride in one. Now here it was, and with a driver every bit as ruggedly handsome as Daniel Craig. My dream was coming true tonight.

“Liam, it’s beautiful,” I said, hanging on his arm.

He turned and spoke in my ear. “Only half as beautiful as you.”

Vivienne’s smirk told me she heard him.

My cheeks heated again. I had to get him to stop embarrassing me.

“Liam, when can I get a ride?” Vivienne asked as I lowered myself into the leather seat.

“Maybe next weekend,” he said.

“It’s a date,” she responded quickly. “Well, not a date, but you know what I mean.”

Liam closed the door firmly and walked around to the driver’s side.

My nostrils filled with the faint scent of expensive leather. I fastened the seatbelt and waved to my excited sister as she stood back.

Liam buckled in, pushed the key fob into a slot in the dash, and the engine rumbled to life.

So cool.

The burble of the exhaust was a low growl at the curb. Once Liam pulled out into the lane, he punched it, throwing me back into my seat. The engine sounds grew from a roar to a scream. We hurtled down the street, the loud mechanical music of the beast warning everyone to get out of the way——this monster owned the road. Liam braked before the next intersection, throwing me forward against the belt and bringing us back from mach one to a sane city speed.

I laughed, giddy from the excitement. “This car is fucking awesome.”
