Downstairs I find a vending machine and ignore the fact one of the prospects followed me from the second floor. It’s annoying and I wish they’d leave altogether. I love the club, but between everything going on in my head and now this, it’s too much.

Totally and completely.

I slide in a bill and punch the button for the Dew my brother wants. Next, I do the same and grab myself a diet. I’m even nice and get another Dew for Grinder.

As I wait for the elevators to go back up, my phone vibrates in my pocket. I grip all the drinks in one hand and pull my cell out. I glance at the screen and groan at the name displayed.

Storm.

I hadn’t told her anything, and I know she’s going to be pissed at me.

Sliding my finger across the screen, I answer, “Hey, Chickadee.”

“Don’t say hey to me. What the hell, Chels? I mean, you up and leave without even telling me. You told Meadow you’d be gone for a few days, but not me. And for the record, it’s been a few days,” Storm snaps.

“Yeah, sorry, it’s been pretty hectic, and I haven’t had a chance to call.” Lies, lies, total lies.

“If that’s the case then tell me where you are. Maybe I can help.”

I sigh and glance over my shoulder at the prospect following me. He’s cute and around my age, long, thick, shaggy hair that looks way sexy on him. But he’s definitely not my type. Shaking my head, I turn my attention back in front of me. “I’d rather not talk about it.”

“Chelsea,” she calls through the line, and I can picture her face, the stern look she’d be giving me in person. “Where are you?”

If I don’t tell her, she’ll just get the guys to trace my phone, and then they’ll all be in my business. “I’m back home. Mom’s in the hospital, and I’m here. There, are you happy?”I don’t want to be snappy with Storm, she’s my best friend, but she’s got enough on her plate.

“No, that doesn’t make me happy. What happened?”

“I’ll fill you in later. I’m about to go back up to the room.” There’s no way I want to discuss this with her right now. Once I start, she’ll demand to know what else is eating at me.

“Okay, you promise to call later?” Storm asks reluctantly.

“Yes, Mom.” I roll my eyes to the ceiling. God knows I love my best friend, but she can be a mother hen, that is, ever since having the babies. Before, she’d worry, but not like she does now. I hang up before she can go any further and shove my phone back in my pocket. I decide to take a moment more before going back upstairs.

Talking to Storm, hearing her voice, makes me homesick, though. Colorado is my home, not Tennessee, but it had become that. I miss her and I miss the others. So much so I want to go home. Get back to what I was doing. I would just do so without any more pranks and avoid Lucky at all costs. He’s made it clear where he stands. The whole shebang.

Needing air, I ignore the prospect and make my way out of the hospital into the bright sunlight. I take a deep breath, my heart hurting, but the fresh air helps. Moving to one of the benches off to the side, I sit down and stare up at the clear blue sky. The sun shining makes it that much clearer.

I should really get back up to my mom’s room, but I hate seeing her in that hospital bed. The paleness of her skin and her small size in that bed makes it that much harder.

I give myself a few more minutes and sigh before getting up. I start toward the hospital entrance when I feel a presence come up behind me. Twisting, I glance over my shoulder to find two beefy men in suits standing close, looking menacing.

“Can I help you?” I ask.

“Yeah,” one of them states, moving even closer and pulling a gun on me. “You can come with us without causing a scene.”

I look from the gun to the man who spoke then to the other one. “I don’t think so,” I finally snark.

“It’s either you come with us now, or we make a call and everyone back in Tennessee will pay. I’m thinking Storm and those brats of hers,” the other guy declares.

I swallow the bile threatening to choke me as it dawns on me. They’re from the Crimson Blood Clan.

Can my luck get any worse than it already is?

CHAPTER2

LUCKY

It’s been silent around the clubhouse ever since Chelsea took off for a few days. No pranks. Nothing. You can say it’s somewhat boring with her gone. With Chelsea here, I never knew what to expect. It just isn’t the same without her around.
