“I mean I can put in a good word for you,” his lips land softly on my neck, kissing up to my ear, “but what’s in it for me?”

My toes instantly curl and my breath falters. He has such a powerful effect on me. “Oh, you play dirty, Mr. Perry.”

“I’m a really good negotiator, Ms. Philips.” He slides down his hands, grabbing my hips in a tight, commanding grip. “I’m sure we can settle this in a mutually beneficial manner.” The words glide up my skin, causing my nipples to harden.

“What do you have in mind? I’ll do anything, sir.” I reach behind and cup his cock. “Anything.” He inhales sharply and I stroke his hard and needy flesh.

“I’d stop if I were you.” His voice is steady, a calm before the storm.

But I don’t. I stroke him harder. He hisses. “Oh yeah? Why’s that, sir?”

“Because if you don’t, I’ll bend you over that staircase and fuck your pussy until it’s sore. And believe me, baby, I won’t even care who walks in. I’d only fuck you harder.” And just like that, he lit me on fire. My core tightens and clenches all at once. I feel hot all over, yet my skin prickles as though it’s now twenty degrees. I’m so insanely turned on. I never thought about having sex in front of others until now. It’d be kind of hot. Okay, maybe not in front of his parents, but other people…

Clack. Clack. Clack.Someone approaches us, their footsteps getting closer.

“Shit!” Jax mutters under his breath. “My mom’s coming.” I let go of his hard-on as though it’s on fire and turn to him, the desire still evident in his eyes. “I have less than a minute to get this damn dick to behave. You’re gonna pay for this.” His lips turn up into a wicked half-grin at the threat.

I arch a brow. “Can’t wait.”

“Well, well, there is my long-lost son.” We turn toward the sound and I come face to face with a tall woman in a navy cocktail dress, nude high heels, and short blond hair angled perfectly against the sharp edges of her jaw line. Now I see where Jax gets his eyes. He looks so much like her. An aristocratic air surrounds her. She approaches us and reaches for Jax, hugging him tightly as only a mother would.

Her eyes land on me and she smiles brightly, finally separating from Jax. She takes my hands in hers and I suddenly feel nervous again. “Hello, you must be Lexi. I've heard so much about you.”

“You have?” I’m sure my face looks as puzzled as I feel. Jax must’ve been playing up this fake relationship for a while without even telling me.That fucker!

“Oh yes, Jax can’t stop talking about you, darling, which is a bit of a shock to me because you see, my dear boy has never in his life talked about a woman like that, let alone brought one home. So, you’ll need to excuse my motherly excitement.” Her smile reveals sparkly, white teeth, perfect as the rest of her.

“Stop embarrassing me, Mom. You don’t want her running away, do you?”

“Oh, surely not.” She pretends to zip up her lips and a small laugh escapes my mouth.

“You have a beautiful home, Mrs. Perry.”

“Thank you, dear. Let me show you around a little before we head out to the back where you can meet the rest of the family.” She leads the way, with us following close behind, but then she freezes abruptly and turns my way. “Oh my goodness, before I forget, let me see the ring!”

I gasp, jerking my head back in horror. “Ahhh—” My mouth falls open, like full on, you can fit a fist inside without even trying. What do I say?! Think!

I stare at Jax who scratches his nose with a tight smile. What the hell did you do!I want to shout at him, tell her he lied, but I do nothing instead.

He reaches into his pocket and takes out a small, black box. “You gave it to me to hold on to while you were in the shower, remember babe?” he says, saving me or killing me, I don’t know which. His mother looks from me to him through narrowed eyes.

I clear my throat and glare at Jax, then fake a beaming grin. “Oh yeah, must’ve slipped my mind.”You stupid, asshole, motherfucker.

He moves in close and peers into my eyes. For a second, I almost forget I’m pissed at him. “Let me put it back where it belongs.” He opens the box and slips the ring on my finger without tearing his eyes away from mine.

My treacherous heart beats louder, rejoicing as though this was an actual proposal.

His mom appears on my left side. “Wow, that’s some ring! You did good, son.” I realize I hadn’t even really looked at it. I only care about the man putting it on my finger. If only this was real.

“Yeah, Jax knows me so well. He surprised me with the most amazing ring.” I gush at the solitaire cushion cut, probably around four carats, all the while wishing we weren’t pretending.

“I’m so happy for you both. What a wonderful birthday gift to me.”

“I’m so sorry, I forgot!” A flush creeps up my cheeks. “Happy birthday.”

“Oh, darling, don’t worry! You’ve got a lot on your mind. Now come on, let me show you around.”

We proceed into a very formal dining room. The ivory marbled table seats sixteen, and a beautifully matched china cabinet stands proudly in the corner. I notice a large family portrait hanging adjacent to it. His parents look in love, his dad hugging his mom so affectionately, and in his eyes there’s genuine happiness. Jax appears a few years younger in the photo, standing next to an even younger looking blond-haired guy. The other two brothers take after their dad, with their russet colored hair and grey eyes.
