“Yeah, but I’m proud ofyou,” I say, kissing her hand once more and loving the blush that colors her porcelain skin.

“Me? Why? I’m not the one who just saved both of our families,” she says, trying to shy away, but I pull her flush against me before she can escape.

“But you did. You saved them and you saved mine and most importantly, Lorena, you saved me,” I whisper, kissing her face as she bites her lip and sighs against me.

“Do we get to be happy now?” She asks, my hands wrapping around her small body as I rest my forehead against hers.

“I hope so, baby. I really do,” I say against her lips, her smile stretching as my cock hardens against her.

“Then let's start right now,” her small hand, the one wearing my ring, stretches down to palm my cock as I growl against her.

“Absolutely, wife,” I say against her smile, a smile that I never want to leave her lips as long as we’re together.

I’ll kill to keep it there.

CHAPTERTHIRTY

Lori

It’s been a month since Dante and Nereo Merlini were killed. I’m sitting here at my vanity while my cousins busy around me, styling my hair and applying makeup to my face while I wait like a princess. To be honest, that’s exactly how I’ve been treated this last month, like a total and complete princess. Today, even more so, since it’s my wedding day and all.

We’ve had family fly out from both sides, a great portion of Marco’s family from his mother’s home country and pretty much all of mine from Italy and other parts of America. Needless to say, the house is jam packed with all of them right now as well as staff, guards and wedding staff. I’ve only had a month to plan this event, but my family has helped tremendously, as well as Marco’s hires. The man really does have connections everywhere in this city.

“Stay still, Lorena!” My cousin Ariana scolds, gripping my chin as she applies a thin layer of lipstick to my lips.

“Oh, be nice to the girl, sister. She’s not used to getting pampered after being raised by men her entire life,” my other cousin Gabriella says. My smile widens at her words.

I haven’t seen the girls since I was a small child. My uncle Paulo lived in New York most of his life before extending the business down to Miami where he and my cousins eventually moved. It’s moments like these that have made me miss them. They’ve always been like sisters to me.

“I can’t believe it! Our little Lori is getting married!” Gabriella sighs as she finishes messing with my hair which is curled to the nines and pinned all around my head.

“I wish you could see how beautiful you look,” Ariana says, pulling away and holding my arms as she stares at me.

“I trust both of you, don’t worry. Not everyone is lucky enough to have two cosmetologists in one family,” I laugh.

“Well, you’re even luckier because we’re the best in the country,” Gabriella says, pulling me from the chair and walking me to my bed where my dress lays in waiting for me.

It’s a long, flowy gown. Sleeveless and silk with a deep cut down the chest. I can’t see the exact details of it, but I know that it fits me like a glove and makes me feel elegant. I hold it up against me, smiling as my skin touches the fabric. Mariella would have loved this dress.

“Marco is going to freak when he sees you in this,” Ariana says. Both of my cousins nearly swoon over my husband the entire week that they’ve been here. It’s been quite funny watching him dodge them all week.

“My friends and colleagues are downstairs, I believe, would you mind keeping them company while I get ready?” I ask, untying my robe as they nod and make their way to the door.

“We’ll send your father up in ten minutes. The ceremony is about to start,” Gabriella glances out the window, the one that had to be replaced after I escaped from it over a month ago.

I’m sure our large backyard is probably transformed to the ideal wedding space, but I can’t bring myself to look. Right now, I’m just trying to muster up the courage to put my dress and heels on. My cousins leave the room and I drop my robe, stepping into my gown and pulling it up my body before I sigh and sit on the bed to step into my ivory heels.

I fold my hands in my lap and caress my wedding ring, thoughts of Mariella overwhelming me today. Thoughts of my own mother even, whom I never even really got to know. I’m at least thankful that my cousins and my college friends are here, I need some type of womanly comfort today, I’m on edge. I know we’re already married, but this day is more than that. This day is the celebration of two families finally joining together.

Although I wish Marco had both of his parents here today, we are still blessed with so many people coming to celebrate. He has some of his old childhood friends here, his cousins and uncles, people who are still mourning the loss of his mother are here to support him and stand beside him. Even all of my co-workers and my boss from the marketing firm are here. Thankfully, Claudio told them months ago that I was taking a medical leave due to my condition, so I'm technically still employed with them. Everything seems to be working out perfectly, so I’m not sure why I am so nervous. I love Marco and I want to spend the rest of my life with him. That in itself should have me running down the aisle with excitement.

A knock sounds on my door and when I look up, I see my father step in. It took him a few weeks to recover from the shooting, but he is back and stronger than ever. The man has been working diligently with my husband, portioning out and organizing this business down to the smallest detail. Even I notice less stress surrounding him. He almost seems… peaceful. The first time I’ve seen him like this in my entire life. Who would have thought teaming up with his mortal enemy would provide that?

“You look beautiful, little one,” he says, the term of endearment mixed with his voice causes a smile to stretch my painted lips.

“I wish I could see,” I say, wishing that somehow, someway, just today I could have my vision back.

“Well, I’m telling you that from what I can see, you’re perfect. Trust in that, okay?” He says, grabbing my hand and pulling me from the bed before twirling me in a circle as I laugh.
