“Yeah, okay. I’m just gonna say hello to the other girls. Everyone’s still here, right?”

“Everyone being?”

“Oh, you know, Marci, Celia, and them.”

“Marci’s still here, but not Celia.”

Her face staggered for a moment almost too quick to catch. “What do you mean, not Celia? Wasn’t she your best dancer?”

“Yeah well… she brought her boyfriend troubles to my club, so I had to let her go.”

“What boyfriend troubles.”

“Igor Nikolaev.”

She frowned. “Didn’t he work here also?”

“Yeah.”

“So, you fired them both.”

“Yeah, of course. I mean well…” I inclined my head. “Igor is back.”

She got right in my face. “Why is Igor back and not Celia?”

“He apologized and broke up with her. She hasn’t come back since.”

Katya frowned. “That doesn’t sound right.”

“Yeah, well…” I shrugged, tired of talking about these people. It’s not like they mattered. They were just dancers. You couldn’t walk two feet in this city without tripping over a stripper.

“Katya! You stood me up!” Kirill suddenly appeared, enveloping Katya in his arms and lifting her off her feet. She squealed like a teenager, and I couldn’t help but smile.

“Put me down right now, you oaf,” she ordered him, but her laughter kind of dampened the effect. “And I didn’t stand you up. I came in a day early. You should have had your phone on. I might have called you!”

“My phone is never off,” Kirill protested.

She shrugged. “Then I don’t know what to tell you. The call didn’t go through.”

“Yeah, well now that you’re here, you have to let me buy you a drink.”

“I would, but my brother here is hustling me out of the club.” Her eyes brightened with malice as a thought occurred. “Do you know who his new girl is?”

“What? You mean Nora?”

“Her name is Nora? Sounds like an Eighties housewife.”

“Well, her stage name isArielif that helps,” Kirill said with a wide grin.

They both snorted.

“Nah, now the Eighties housewife is wearing a flowered crown and is barefoot.” Katya smirked.

They both collapsed with laughter. I rolled my eyes.

“Are you done?” I asked.

“No. But we’ll take pity on you. Only because the show’s about to start and I have to get back to my friends.”
