“Leo,” I growl his name in warning. “She could be in danger.”

“Are you sure she hasn’t just run away?”

I clench my jaw as it’s possible, but we have to find her either way. “With the Vishekov Bratva out for blood, I don’t want to take any chances. We need to find her.”

“Fine. Shall I come to the house?”

“No, meet me at our headquarters. I’m assembling a team.”

“See you soon.” He ends the call, and I march out of the front door to the town car waiting for me.

The privacy screen winds down. “Where are we going, boss?” Vincenzo asks.

“Morrone Headquarters. As fast as possible.”

“Got it.” The privacy screen returns, and I loosen my tie, knowing I’ve never felt this out of control.

Ella could be in the hands of my enemy all because I was a fucking idiot and wouldn’t at least tell her I’d think about what she wants from life. I’m not sure I can give her the things she craves, but the idea of losing her strikes fear into my heart so intense I know I won’t survive.

The car stops in front of our headquarters in downtown Chicago, and I jump out, heading inside.

“Good afternoon, Mr. Morrone,” the lady at the front desk says.

I nod at her and rush for the elevator, pressing the button for the top floor where the boardroom is located. I haven’t stepped foot in the offices of our legitimate holdings since I had cancer. As I leave the elevator, Elaine, my secretary, rushes over with wide eyes. No doubt the lady on the desk gave her a heads-up.

“Mr. Morrone. I wasn’t expecting you.”

“No, I’ve called an urgent meeting with some of my men. They’ll be arriving soon. Send them in.”

She nods and goes to sit back down behind her desk.

I walk into the boardroom and loosen my tie as it’s suffocating me. Or perhaps that’s the situation and panic. Ella left because I was an asshole.

My cell rings, and I see it’s Mia. Sighing, I pick it up. “Dad, Ella isn’t in danger.”

I tense, wondering if she’s with Mia. After all, they’ve become good friends. “Is she with you?”

“No, she’s on a plane out of here. I dropped her at the airport this morning.”

I clench my jaw. “Where’s she going?”

“I promised not to tell you, but Leo called me and said you were going fucking mental about Ella. So, I said I’d put you straight.”

“Mia,” I growl her name. “Do you realize the danger she is in?”

“What danger?” she asks.

“Ella is a target, like her mother was. The Vishekov Bratva are targeting us.”

“Shit,” she breathes.

“What?”

“Alex was at the airport, too. He saw Ella and said he’d keep her company. She seemed happy to see him, so I thought nothing of it...” She trails off.

“Alex Vishekov?” I confirm.

“Yes.”
