We step through a small hallway, brushing past the old paintings that adorn the walls. We reach an intersection, and I motion for Leo to take the east side.

I take the west, and soon enough, I find myself standing outside a bedroom door, hearing commotion inside.

“Leo, I’ve found something,” I say over the comms.

Within a minute, he’s by my side.

“What is it?”

“There’s someone in here.”

His jaw works. “What makes you think it’s Ella?”

“The door is locked.”

“And if it’s not her?”

It’s a good question, as barging into the room and not finding her could be a big mistake. I press my ear against the door, listening for a voice on the other side.

My heart stops when I hear her muffled voice on the other side.

“It’s Ella,” I say, standing back and glancing at Leo. “You got the lock pick?”

He nods and works on the lock. After a few moments, it opens, and we both burst into the room.

She’s bound to a chair with bruises on her face and arms. Rage slams into me, hot and heavy, making me want to rip apart whoever did this to her.

“Ella,” I growl her name, and she looks up at me, eyes wide as she shakes her head.

“No, it’s a trap!”

Before I realize what she means, Alex appears from the adjoining bathroom, pointing a gun at me.

“You left for Seattle,” I say.

He smirks. “That’s what I wanted you fucking imbeciles to believe. A contact of mine knew you were in town, and that’s when I rang you to arrange the meeting, knowing you’d strike while I was supposedlyout of town.So I had my jet take offas if leaving for Seattle. We circled back and landed at another airstrip.”

I grind my teeth, realizing how gullible I was, believing he’d call the night we arrived in town.

“What the fuck do you want?” I growl.

Three men holding rifles exit the bathroom, aiming them at Leo and me.

“I wanted you here.”

I swallow hard. He’s using Ella as the bait to lure me to my death. “I’m not sure what your endgame is, but you won’t win, Vishekov.”

Alex laughs. “I already have.” He glances at his guys. “Tie them up and take them down to the basement with the girl. I’m going to enjoy this.”

His men nod in agreement before grabbing us and our guns, tying our wrists together. Thankfully, none of them notice the GPS watches on our wrists, so we still have a chance that our guys can find us and break us out.

I know they’ll have heard everything over the comms. Now, we must sit, wait, and hope they don’t get caught. Otherwise, it’s game over.

ELLA

The guard throws me into a cell, and I land on my knees, scraping them on the hard concrete.
