Leo is thrown in next, followed by Remy.

Remy.

I can’t believe he’s here.

Why is he?

He made it pretty clear I don’t mean much to him.

“The boss will deal with you all soon.” The guard slams the door shut and locks it.

Remy crawls over to me and grabs my shoulder. “Ella, are you okay?”

I sob at his touch and the sound of his voice.

He lifts me in his arms and then cradles me on the bed in the corner of the cell. “It’s okay, angel. I’m here now.” He strokes my hair from my face. “I’m trying to save you.”

I shake my head. “Why?”

His jaw clenches, and I see a hardness in his eyes. He doesn’t want to answer. “Because I care about you.”

“It didn’t seem like it the other day when we argued.” I hate that I can only think of one thing as I gaze up at him. Alex’s possible lies about Remy killing my dad, but I don’t want to ask him now.

Remy’s jaw clenches, and he glances over at Leo, clearly not wanting to have this conversation with an audience.

Leo holds his hands up. “Don’t mind me.”

His eyes narrow. “I don’t want to have this conversation here and now,” he murmurs.

“We probably won’t make it out alive, so why not have it?”

He cups my cheeks and kisses me softly, making my chest ache. “We’re going to make it out. Four of my men are still in the house and undetected.” He glances at an odd-looking watch on his wrist. “They’re heading this way as we speak.”

“To rescue us?”

He nods.

I sob harder, struggling to believe there’s a way out.

“Who did this to you?” he asks, his fingers tracing the bruise on my face and then lower to the bruises on my arms and chest.

I swallow the pain. “Alex.”

Remy’s fist clenches. “I’ll kill him.”

“How are you going to do that locked in here?”

His eyes narrow. “I will. I’m going to make him pay for touching you.” He presses his forehead against mine, and my chest aches harder. “I promise.”

I swallow hard as while I don’t condone violence, the way Alex has treated me since he captured me makes me sure he doesn’t deserve to live. All he will do is hurt another unsuspecting victim. “Thank you,” I murmur.

If Remy knew everything he said he would put me through, I know his rage would be untamable.

“So, what now?” I ask.

Leo clears his throat. “Now we wait and hope.”

Remy nods. “I have faith in my men. They will find us.”
