“That was delicious,” Luca says, breaking the silence as he drops his cutlery with a clang to his plate.

I look up, shaking my head. “You eat way too fast.”

Leo laughs. “No, it’s you who eats too slow. The three of us have finished, and you’re eating like a fucking mouse.”

I narrow my eyes at him. “I’m sorry that I like to savor my food.”

Luca throws his serviette onto his plate. “Well, while this was lovely, Leo and I have to get going to Secret Obsession.”

My brow furrows. “What’s that?”

“A strip club,” Leo says.

I wrinkle my nose. “Gross.”

“Dad, are you coming?” he asks Remy.

I look at him to find he’s staring at meagain.

He doesn’t take his eyes off of me. “No, you go ahead. I’ll take Ella home.”

I swallow hard at the thought of being in the car alone with him. My mom has been away a couple of days, and I can’t stop thinking about my stepdad’s hands on me.

What is wrong with me?

“You got the check?” Luca confirms.

Remy nods. “Yeah.”

Luca and Leo leave me alone with the man I’ve been having illicit fantasies about since we met.

I stand. “I’m going to use the restroom.”

“Fine, I’ll pay the check and meet you out front.”

I can hardly breathe as I rush into the ladies’ restroom and lean over the wash basin. “Fuck,” I say, running a hand through my hair.

“Are you okay?” A lady asks.

I shake my head and smile. “Yes, sorry for my language. I just had some bad news,” I lie.

She doesn’t look convinced but leaves me alone.

I splash some cool water on my neck, trying to cool the inferno that Remy Morrone keeps stoking inside me with his dark gaze. Mom doesn’t give a shit about him, just like she didn’t give a shit about my dad.

I look at myself in the mirror, straighten my blouse, and head out of the restroom. I walk through the restaurant and toward the exit. The sudden coolness of the night air hits me as I step outside the restaurant. I see Remy in the back of the town car, his silhouette outlined against the dim interior light. The sight of him sends a shiver down my spine that has nothing to do with the chill and everything to do with the anticipation of being alone with him.

I walk toward the car, my heart pounding. The door is held open for me. His intoxicating scent engulfs me as I slide into the plush leather seat. I glance at Remy. His eyes are a dark abyss, full of dangerous desire. The tension between us is palpable, a pulsating electrical charge that I can almost taste in the air.

“Ella,” he says, his voice a low growl that sends a delicious thrill through me. “Is there anywhere else you need to go?”

I look at him, utterly lost in those intense eyes. “No, you?”

He shakes his head as the town car pulls away from the curb, and we’re left in silence, the only sound being the soft hum of the engine and the erratic beat of my heart.

I feel like a moth drawn to a flame, which scares me as much as it excites me. God, what is happening to me?

I look away from him, fixating my stare on the dark window as we drive. The windows of the town car are tinted black, and I feel like I’m in my own little world with Remy, a place where anything could happen. It’s a dangerous notion.
