REMY

“Are you serious?” Ella says, barging into my office while two of my men, Edoardo and Gino, explain how they plan to increase our profits at Secret Obsession.

I glance at them. “Excuse me, gentleman. We’ll discuss this at a later date.”

They both nod and exit my study. I sit back in my chair, placing my fingers together. “Am I serious about what, Ella?”

I know why she’s pissed. She tried to use her card at lunch with Mia. I had a notification on my phone from the banking app.

“You can’t take control of my bank account.”

I tilt my head. “I can and have, Ella.” I stand and move around the desk. “Did you really think you could book those tickets and run away before the pre-auction dinner this weekend?”

She squares up to me and holds my gaze. “Unfreeze the account and let me go,” she growls.

My eyes narrow. “Careful how you talk to me.”

Her eyes flash with fire. Fire that I’d love to play with, but I need to keep a level head. Two weeks and she’ll go to live with whatever lucky son of a bitch buys her hand in marriage.

“Do it, or I’ll call the police,” she threatens.

It’s amusing that she thinks that will get her anywhere. “Go ahead, see if it helps.”

Her brow furrows. “Don’t tell me you have the cops in your pockets?”

I shrug. “What do you think?”

Defeat slumps her shoulders. “Please, Remy,” she begs, eyes dazzling with unshed tears.

Fuck.

Hearing her beg me is not good. I’ve wanted to hear her beg me since the second I set eyes on her. My cock is a steel rod in my pants. It’s been hard since she stormed in her like a tornado, but when she begs me… No, I can’t back down on this.

“There’s nothing that can be done. I’ve entered you into the auction with a ten million dollar reserve.”

Her mouth falls open. “Who the hell will pay ten million dollars for me?”

Is she really that blind to how gorgeous she is?

“Many men would. It’s a payment for you and the alliance with the Morrone famiglia.”

Her throat bobs. “Remy, you’ve got to do something. I don’t want this. I want...”

She trails off, and I wonder what she was going to say.

“What do you want, Ella?” I ask, intrigued to learn more about her wants despite my better judgment.

She sucks in a deep breath. “Love.”

One simple word, but it makes my stomach clench. Love. Of course, that’s what this sweet, innocent creature craves. Something I could never give her.

“Explain,” I say.

She looks into my eyes. “My parents didn’t love each other.” Her jaw clenches. “Well, Dad may have loved Mom initially, but he fell out of love with her. And I don’t think she ever loved him. I don’t want a marriage like that.”

I shake my head. “You’re too innocent, believing love even exists.”
