He fills me without precursor, just as he warned me he would do, and my body sings in response.

His snug fit inside fulfills me in so many ways he doesn’t even know.

Cash jackhammers into me. Fast, furious, but oh so delicious. I know he doesn’t have time to take care of my knees, so I happily do it myself, reaching down to play with myself while he uses my body, just like I’ve been wishing he would do all week.

He comes hard and fast, groaning against my shoulder blade as his body spasms through his release.

“Better, baby?”

“I fucking love you, Caroline.”

“I know.”

We go about our usual post-sex clean-up rituals so he can get back to work. Surprisingly, I see my makeup kit and hairbrush at the sink when I leave the stall. Cash is doing his thing as if nothing is odd about this.

“What’s all this for?” I ask.

“Uh, you might want to get yourself social-media ready.”

I laugh because it’s been weeks since I put on makeup. “My followers do not care about my no-makeup days.”

“I know they don’t,” he shrugs, shutting off the faucet and ripping off a length of brown paper that the automatic dispenser spits out. “But you’re gonna want to do all that before leaving the bathroom.”

What is he up to? Maybe it’s better if I don’t spoil it. Is this why he’s been acting weird? Is he surprising me? My birthday isn’t for another month and our anniversary was last week.

Finally, I surrender to his mysteriousness and pick up my lipstick.

Five minutes later, Cash finds me and leads me toward the party room.

“Why are we going in there?” I ask.

“I need to show you something.”

“I’ve seen the party room before.”

“Will you just come with me and stop arguing?”

“Fine!” Geez, what a grouch.

When he opens the double doors to the party room, I’m in shock to see three, four, no, at least ten of my closest author friends and bloggers seated around a table decorated with fan-art book stickers, candles, and in the center, a massive cake replicating my book cover.

I’m overwhelmed and thrilled to see everyone.

“What is this? What is happening?” I say, hugging everyone around the table one by one. “Did my husband call you guys and make you come all this way for a restaurant opening?”

Someone hands me my phone, and I take it, noticing it’s a call from my agent.

My stomach drops, and I hope it’s not bad news. But when I bring the phone to my ear and look around the room again, I get a sneaking suspicion that something else is happening.

Everyone is filming me with their cameras. Everyone.

“Hi,” I rasp to my agent, Dana.

“Hi, sweetie, I have some news for you. Are you sitting down?”

I immediately burst into tears. “No! Why should I be sitting down?”

“Because I have some big news. Are you ready?”
