Laura braced herself. She was sure that he was going to cross the space between them and press his lips to hers. But he didn’t. He just stared at her.

Normally, she loved when Knox stared at her. But not this time. This time, she felt like he had emotional x-ray vision and could see how strong her feelings for him were. She was scared when he looked at her all he saw was a flashing neon sign that said I love you.

Finally, after what felt like an eternity, he asked, “Why did you freak out? Was it really about the phone?”

“No. I mean, sort of.” Shit. It’s like he knew that she was keeping something from him and was doing his best to draw it out of her. Maybe he did have emotional x-ray vision. “Ifanyoneelse would have silenced my phone, I would have been furious. But since it was you, I wasn’t, and that freaked me out.”

His eyes narrowed slightly and he tilted his head to the side. “So because youdidn’tget pissed off when I silenced your phone, you threw me out?”

The way he asked the question told Laura that even though he’d acted cool, calm, and collected about the situation, it had bothered him. And it should have. She should never have treated him that way.

Suddenly, her legs started to feel heavy and she got a little dizzy. She was sure it was just because she hadn’t been sleeping that well because all she could think about was Knox. Or maybe it was because she wasn’t used to apologizing and it was really taking it out of her. Either way, she lowered down onto the couch and took a breath.

“Are you okay?”

She nodded. “Yeah, just tired.”

“We don’t have to talk about—”

“No, it’s okay. I’m fine. I also threw you out because it just felt like things were getting too…intimate.”

“Too intimate?” he repeated.

“Yes. It felt like we were playing house when the kids were there, and then when they left we had sex but not…you know…the baby making kind and it just…freaked me out.”

Her admission might not be the whole truth, but Laura felt like it was enough of it. Now that she was there with him, she knew there was no way that she could tell Knox that she was in love with him.

Knox pushed off the counter, walked over to the couch, and lowered down beside her. She kept staring straight ahead. She knew that if she looked at him, she might do something that she shouldn’t.

Out of the corner of her eye, she saw his hand lift and then felt the tips of his fingers graze her cheek as he brushed her hair back behind her ears. The innocent contact sent a ripple of tingles in a not-so-innocent area of her body.

“It freaked you out that we didn’t have sex?”

She nodded, still not looking in his direction. This was what she’d been missing. The energy that flowed between the two of them whenever they were in the same room.

“Well, I know a way we can fix that.”

She’d known that sitting on the couch was a bad idea and would lead to something physical happening between them. And as Knox leaned forward and pressed his lips to hers, she’d never been so happy that she’d been right.

Knox didn’t takefor granted being able to touch, to kiss, to hold, to smell, to feel Laura once again. He’d been sure that their time together was over. That she’d been done with him.

Her lips pressed firmly against his as he pulled her onto his lap. Her legs straddled him, and her arms wrapped around his neck. Their tongues slid together in a sensual dance as his hands moved from her hips, up and down her back, over her ass, and down her legs. He wanted to feel all of her. To touch everywhere all at once.

As he continued kissing her, he tugged her shirt up. Their kiss broke as she lifted her arms so he could get her shirt off. Before her arms lowered, he had already reached behind her and unhooked her bra. It sprang open, and he slid the straps down her arms, revealing the two most perfect breasts on the planet. He cupped her full mounds and squeezed.

He’d always been an ass man, but there was something about Laura’s breasts that he just couldn't get enough of. He loved the weight of them in his palms. He loved her perfect nipples and the darkened skin of her areola surrounding them. He could spend all day licking, sucking, and kissing them.

Leaning forward, he tasted first her left and then her right nipple, pulling each into his mouth and biting down lightly on them. He continued to move between the two, showering each with attention as Laura’s hands raked through his hair, holding his head in place at her chest.

Wanting and needing more, he pressed her breasts together so that her nipples almost touched and sucked them both into his mouth at the same time. When he did, her hips rolled into the erection, straining behind his zippered jeans.

He’d known he’d missed her the past few days, but the feelings he was feeling were a lot more than just missing someone.

Knox had never been in love, so he didn’t know if this was what it felt like, but he had the strongest urge to say those three little words to her now. Something stopped him, though. He’d never told a woman he was dating that he loved her. Those words held too much weight, too much expectation, and too much commitment.

Instead of voicing how he was feeling, he tried to show her.
