“No. What if they come early?”

Kennedy could see that Laura’s coloring was not good and she needed to be in bed. But she knew she wasn’t going to budge about leaving the shop unattended. So if she wouldn’t letKennedytake her home then…

“Is Seb upstairs?”

Laura closed her eyes and nodded. “I think so. His Escalade is out back.”

“Are you okay if I run up and get him?”

Laura nodded. “I’m fine if I just keep sitting like this.”

“I’ll be right back.”

Kennedy rushed out of the Snack Shack, her heels clicking on the tile loudly as she went. She was out the door and up the stairs in record time. When she reached the top, she knocked on the door. There was no answer. She knocked again. Louder.

Still no answer. She tried once more. She leaned over the rail and checked and saw that his Escalade was still in the back lot. Maybe he’d walked somewhere. She was calculating what her plan B was going to be when she turned to leave. She’d made it down one step when the door flew open. Startled, she jumped a little as she looked over her shoulder. The upward motion combined with the twisting caused her feet to slide out from under her. She winced as her arms flailed behind her to brace her fall. But that didn’t happen. Instead, she landed in the shirtless arms of Sebastian Savage.

Kennedy opened her eyes and was met with the soulful brown eyes she’d missed seeing this week as he stared down at her with concern. “Are you okay?”

His deep voice sent a shudder of awareness through her. If she wasn’t already in the position, she would have gone full swoon.

She nodded. “I swear, I’m not always this clumsy.”

“I’m not complaining.” A grin appeared on his stubbled face as he helped her back to her feet. That’s when she saw he was in a towel.

Okay, that was flirting. It had to be, right? So why had he been avoiding her? And why was he in a towel? Again. Was that his normal state of dress at home? If so, she really wanted to visit more often.

She shook her head. This was not the time to be thinking about that.

“Laura is not feeling well but she doesn’t want to close the shop so I can’t take her home. Would you be able to drive her?”

His expression instantly changed from relaxed to alarmed. “Where’s my brother?”

“In the city. He had lunch with a guy he served with.”

Seb nodded. “I’ll be right down.”

Kennedy was still catching her breath as she rushed, carefully, back down the steps. She wasn’t sure if her lack of oxygen had more to do with her near fall or the sight of Sebastian Savage shirtless.

Holy hotness. His body was perfection. He was lean and sculpted and covered with tattoos. His shoulders were wide, his arms were chiseled, and his abs looked so yummy she wanted to lick ice cream off of them.

Stop it, she chided herself as she pushed those images out of her head and pushed the door to the shop open.

“Seb’s coming,” she assured her friend as she rushed to her side.

Laura’s eyes were still closed as she nodded and continued inhaling and exhaling slowly. Seconds later Seb was there, he helped Laura up and he and Kennedy got her safely into his SUV.

“Text me when Knox gets home,” Kennedy said as she helped Laura put on her seatbelt.

“I’m staying with her until he does,” Seb stated firmly.

Laura shook her head. “You don’t have to—”

“Yes, I do.” Seb’s tone left no room for argument.

It was sexy as hell. Maybe even as sexy as him in a towel.

Kennedy waited for them to leave the parking lot before going back inside the shop. She was worried about her friend, but she knew she was in good hands. The knowledge that Seb would stay with her until Knox was back gave her the reassurance she needed so she could stay calm.
