Page 34 of Crashing Into You

“You look beautiful,” Dan said sincerely.

“Thanks!” she smiled, wishing that she felt even a tenth from those words as she felt from Seb’s stare.

“So, how has your week been?” he asked.

“Busy. How about you?”

Dan started telling her about the deals he was working on. He predominantly dealt in commercial property. She listened. Or at least she did her best to. But her mind kept drifting back to the man in the white t-shirt seated at the bar.

How could a white t-shirt look so ridiculously sexy on a man?

She heard a voice that sounded a lot like Jessa in her head say,the tattoos and the chiseled body sure as hell don’t hurt.

Jessa-voice was right. It also didn’t hurt that Kennedy had discovered a totally different side of Seb today. The shop was a little slow in the afternoon, so she’d spent the time googling Sebastian Savage. She’d found several interviews on YouTube and even a television show that he’d judged. She’d also discovered a ton of videos of him tattooing. Some were taken at conventions, and some were at various studios across the world where he’d done residencies.

She’d loved seeing him in his element. He was so ridiculously talented and she could see how much he loved his craft. It broke her heart that he might not ever be able to tattoo again.

“What about you?” Dan asked.

She hadn’t even realized it, but she’d totally zoned out on Dan. “I’m sorry?”

“Do you have any siblings?”

Shoot. He’d probably just talked about his family. Which was something she was actually interested in, unlike shop talk.

“Um, no. Only child.”

“Oh, so we have that in common.” He lifted a glass of wine and took a sip.

It was then that she noticed that drinks had been delivered to the table, but she didn’t remember ordering anything, which meant he must have. Holy crap, she’d really been completely checked out.

He set his glass of red down. “I don’t know about you, but I was always happy that I didn’t have to deal with sharing a room or wearing hand-me-down clothes.”

“Actually, I was the opposite. I always wanted siblings and a big family.”

“So do you want kids?” he asked, interest lighting in his eyes.

It was strange to hear a man talking about kids on a first date. Most men she encountered steered clear of the subject.

“I do, what about you?”

“Absolutely. I have a five-year plan if you’re interested.”

“Sure,” Kennedy did her best to sound convincing.

The truth was, she was only interested in one man in this restaurant. And it wasn’t the one she was on a date with.

This guy fits her criteria?!Seb thought to himself as he sipped the beer he’d been nursing for the past two hours perched on his stool at the bar which had a straight eye line to where Kennedy was seated with her date.

Keaton had called it a night half an hour ago, but Seb had opted to stay. He just couldn’t bring himself to leave. He’d spent the past thirty minutes staring at Kennedy and her date like they were an attraction at the zoo and trying to recall all the things on her list. He didn’t remember every single one, but he knew he’d heard her say, “Chemistry. Like we want to rip each other’s clothes off chemistry.”

From what Seb had observed, her and her date had zero chemistry. She had more chemistry with the decorative plant beside her than she had with the man sitting in front of her.

Maybe he was just being a hater. Maybe the guy she was with had everything she was looking for and Seb was just seeing what he wanted to see because he wanted to be the man she was on a date with. But that wasn’t going to happen. He didn’t make the cut. He didn’t have a high school diploma, much less a college degree. He’d never had any plans to get married, settle down, and have kids. And, technically, he was unemployed. Hell, his career might be over.

“Can I get you another one?” Liam asked as he wiped down the bar.
