“That’s a yes or no question.”

“No, it’s not. I don’t…like I said, I don’t know him that well.”

“Okay, well, did you want to rip his clothes off?” Seb cut right to the chase.

Kennedy was silent for a moment, and he thought he just might have crossed a line he didn’t think was there. Asking if she wanted to rip his clothes off might have been too personal.

He was going to apologize when she sighed, “No.”

Seb had never been more relieved in his life. He was about to ask her if she wanted to riphisclothes off when she’d ran into him in the hallway of Well Brook but before he did his dashboard lit up.

He was about to ignore it when he saw that it was his mom calling. “I need to take this.”

“Of course.” Kennedy nodded.

“Hey, Mom.”

“He’s not answering my texts. Is she okay?” Seb could hear the panic in her voice through the speakers. He felt bad that he knew she must have been just as scared when she got the call about his accident.

“I’m on my way to the hospital now,” he assured her. “I’ll call you when I get there.”

“I’m catching the next flight out.”

“Okay. Send me your flight info.”

“Okay. Call me back as soon as you get to the hospital,” she demanded, probably not even realizing he’d already told her that he would.

“I will, Mom.”

He was about to press the disconnect button when Kennedy sneezed.

“Are you getting sick?” His mother asked. “Is it your asthma?”

Seb hadn’t had any issues with his breathing since he was twelve, but his mom was always worried that it was going to come back. He looked over at Kennedy and her eyes were wide. Normally, he would have covered and said that it was dust or something that made him sneeze, but for some reason, he didn’t.

He grinned at Kennedy. “That wasn’t me.”

Her eyes widened even further.

“Who was it?” his mom demanded.

“Kennedy,” he answered.

“Kennedy?” his mom repeated.

“Yep.”

“Hi Mrs. Savage.” Kennedy waved at the dashboard that displayed his mom’s name like it was FaceTime, which Seb found fucking adorable. “I’m Laura’s friend. I’m not sick. I just have allergies and I forgot to take my Claritin.”

“Oh, hello Kennedy. I’m so sorry, I didn’t know that Seb had company.”

“We were both at Lanterns when we got the call that Laura was in labor. Seb offered to give me a ride,” Kennedy explained.

“You were at Lanterns together?” Seb could hear the sound of hope blossom in his mom’s voice.

“No, Kennedy was on a date,” Seb clarified. “With someone else.”

“Oh.” And just like that, the hope flower wilted.
