“Yeah,” she confirmed.

“So, where did you meet Dan?”

“I met him at the conference. Last week. In Chicago.”

That meant, technically, Seb had known Kennedy longer since they’d “met” at Well Brook the day before the trip to Chicago.

“Was this your first date?”

“It was,” Kennedy confirmed.

“And is there going to be a date two?” Seb might be a glutton for punishment but he had a feeling she was going to say no.

“Maybe.”

Seb didn’t like the sound of that. He had no right to feel the possessiveness he felt over Kennedy. But he couldn’t seem to help himself. Every time he saw Kennedy, or even thought of her at all, the wordminepopped into his head.

“Maybe, huh?”

“I sort of left in a hurry,” Kennedy explained. “We didn’t really discuss it.”

“Right.” Seb knew that he should drop the subject now. It was none of his business who Kennedy dated. “Do youwantthere to be a second date?”

Kennedy didn’t respond and he worried that he might have crossed a line. Maybe he was getting too personal. The thing was, with Kennedy, he didn’t feel like that line existed.

“I should,” she finally responded.

“You should?” he asked, not understanding what that meant.

“Yes. I should.”

“But you don’t.” Seb stated.

“I will,” she said resolutely.

“You’re going to force yourself to wanta second date?”

“That’s the plan,” she said, almost under her breath.

“The plan is to force yourself towanta second date?” he repeated for clarity.

“Yes.”

“Because…”

“Because…he’s a good guy. He wants the same things I want. He has similar values.”

“He sounds perfect,” Seb admitted.

“Yep.”

“So does that mean he has everything on your list?”

“I don’t know. I’d have to get to know him better.”

“Did you two have chemistry?” Seb knew that he was pushing his luck, but he just couldn’t seem to stop himself.

“Maybe.”
