Page 92 of Crashing Into You

He’d been trying to find a time to talk with Kennedy, but she’d seemed distracted and busy. She’d been by Laura’s side most of the wedding and reception. But the dinner was over, the toasts had been given, the first dance was danced by the bride and groom, and the cake had been cut.

Now, he was just waiting for his chance to ask her to dance. Not that he was the best dancer, but it would give him an excuse to get her alone.

“I heard the good news,”Keaton said as he stepped up beside Seb at the bar.

“What news?”

“That you got the green light. You can ink again.”

“Oh right. Yeah.”

Keaton looked down at the back of his hand. “Is that new?”

“Yep, I did it last night,” Seb explained.

His first tattoo back had been Kennedy’s eye on the back of his hand.

“Damn dude, that’s sick. Did it feel good, getting back in the saddle?”

“It did. Yeah.” He nodded and spotted Kennedy standing at the edge of the dance floor. “But not as good as this will.”

Keaton’s brows knitted in confusion as Seb set his beer down and made his way across the room.

“Can I have this dance?”

She looked up at him with uncertainty. He wasn’t sure if it was because she didn’t want the people in town to talk or if it was because she was banned from dating anyone to be on the show.

“Just one dance?” he asked.

She nodded and put her hand in his.

He intentionally guided them to the far corner of the floor that was free from other dancers. When they were far away from eavesdropping ears, he pulled her into his arms and began to sway back and forth.

Seb expected her to melt against him, but instead she felt…tense. He wasn’t sure if it was because she didn’t want people talking or if it was because she was about to do a dating show, but he didn’t care either way.

He’d held in what he was feeling for long enough.

“Kennedy,” he whispered against the top of her head.

She looked up at him and he knew this was the moment. For better or worse, he was going to tell her exactly how he felt. His heart was beating wildly against his ribcage. He’d told a few other women that he’d loved them, and at the time he had.

But it hadn’t been this kind of love. This can’t-live-without-you, best-friend, soulmate kinda love.

He took a breath and tried to calm his racing pulse. “I need to tell you something.”

Her eyes widened. He wasn’t sure if that was in fear or anticipation. Maybe a little of both. “What?”

“I love you. I think I might have loved you from the first time I looked into your eyes. And I know that you are about to go on a show where you—"

“I’m not doing the show,” she blurted out.

“What?” He blinked. “Since when?”

“Since about four hours ago.”

“Why?”

She bit her lip and turned away. He could see that she was nervous and he didn’t want to push her.
