“How about Hawaii? Find a bungalow or something on Maui where we can just be. You and me, with nowhere to go, nothing to do but be together, and fall in love all over again.”

“Okay.” I nodded, fighting off another wave of emotion. “Yes. That sounds perfect.”

“We have a house full of guests. You ready to go downstairs?”

“I think I need to wash my face first, but I’ll meet you down there in a few.”

“All right.”

We both got to our feet, and he put Jeremy in his crib before pulling me against him. “I love you, Presley. Don’t ever let me get away with not showing you how I feel. Never again.”

“You can count on it.” I leaned against him and closed my eyes. For the first time in my life, I felt complete. At peace. Loved. And it was glorious.

Zeke was gone a long time the next day. He’d left just after nine and now it was almost five and he wasn’t home yet. I’d booked us five days in Hawaii, leaving first thing in the morning, so I hoped it was okay because I hadn’t heard from him. We were packed, Fatima had helped me book a car to take us to the airport, and we’d even gone shopping for a few hours. I had a couple of pretty new dresses and a bathing suit, and I’d written out pages of instructions for them regarding Jeremy. The only thing left was for Zeke to get home so I could tell him the plan.

He walked in just after six looking exhausted.

“Hi.” I met him in the foyer, bouncing Jeremy on my hip.

“Hey, beautiful.”

Jeremy immediately held out his arms to his father and Zeke took him from me, pausing to quickly press his lips to mine as we walked deeper into the house.

“Are you hungry? I saved you a plate of Aunt Meg’s meatloaf and homemade mashed potatoes.”

“Sounds good. You mind if I go upstairs and change?” he asked me. “I’ll be right down.”

“Sure. Go ahead.” I took Jeremy from him and went into the kitchen to warm up the plate I’d saved for him. I had a million questions but didn’t say anything until he was sitting at the island and had taken a bite.

“Damn, this is good,” he said, chewing.

“Beer?” I asked, pulling a bottle of Guinness out of the fridge.

“Thanks.” He smiled. “Reminds me of the night we met.”

I laughed. “Me too.”

“I have so much to tell you,” he said between bites.

“Take your time.”

“Well, we fired Aurora.”

“Good.”

“Yeah. But the less good news is that we’ll be retiring Onyx Knight.”

“What?” I stared at him.

“We don’t have any kind of plan going forward, other than releasing the next album, so we’re calling it quits.”

“Babe.” I stared at him. “You must be devastated.”

“I don’t know what I am,” he admitted. “The good news is I’ve got money in trust for Jeremy so he’ll be set for life. This house is paid for, along with my house in Atlanta and—”

“You have a house in Atlanta?”
