I chuckled. “That’s a girl thing, right?”

“Maybe.” She sniffled.

There was a knock on the door, and I grinned. “That’ll be the dresses. I’m heading over to Carter and Meg’s suite so you can choose and surprise me.”

“Send Aunt Meg over?” she asked.

“Sure thing.”

Carter and Meg were sharing a two-bedroom suite for safety reasons, just in case she needed anything. Carter had promised me he’d look after her and be on his best behavior, which was just as scary as when he was high because Carter was the consummate ladies’ man. I’d seen him sleep with women three times his age when he was younger, so I didn’t put it past him to make a move on Meg.

I chuckled to myself just thinking about it and must’ve had a humorous look on my face when Carter opened the door.

“Hey. Presley’s looking at dresses and wants Meg to join her.”

“On my way.” Meg still used her cane, but she looked flushed and happy today, making me wonder about her and Carter yet again. I just couldn’t bring myself to ask.

“She has thirty minutes,” I called after her. “We have shit to do.”

She just laughed.

“Tell me you’re not the reason she looks flushed,” I said to Carter when we shut the door.

He rolled his eyes. “We’ve been up here like twelve minutes, and while I’m good, she’s not some twenty-year-old. I’d have to put some time into it with a woman like Meg.”

“Please don’t.” I shook my head.

He just laughed. “Did love turn you into a prude? Consenting adults, man. If she was down and the situation arose, I enjoy my way around an older woman’s body.”

I groaned. “Thanks, bro. Way to ruin my wedding day.”

“Marriage day. It’s not really a wedding.”

I scratched my chin. “You think this is a bad idea?”

“I think Presley deserves the whole wedding experience and this—” He motioned around us with his hand. “Is a shortcut. What made you decide to do it today?”

“After last night, I think Aurora is going to cause trouble for us. Not me and Presley specifically, but all of us.” I gave him a look. “And it’s because of you, right?”

He blew out a frustrated breath. “I’m telling you—leave it alone. Some secrets are kept that way for a reason.”

“You have to tell me so I can help,” I said quietly. “Let me help you, man. Let’s get her out of our lives.”

“It’s not just about me. There are innocent people involved and blowing up their lives, in addition to the band, isn’t worth it. I’ll handle Aurora.”

“But you’re not. And what could be so bad that you can’t tell me?”

“Listen to me. If anything ever happens to me, there are instructions in my will. You’ll take care of my wishes, right?”

I threw up my hands. “Dude, I don’t know what it is. And don’t talk like that. Fuck.”

“It’s just a precaution. As long as I’m alive, I’ve got it under control. Trust me, okay?”

As frustrated as I was, this wasn’t the time, so I would have to trust him whether I wanted to or not.
