This was going to be the most difficult decision I’ve ever made.

There were a lot of advantages to being a multi-millionaire, and one of them was the ability to travel anywhere I wanted, any time I wanted. So even though I’d just left there, I’d taken the next flight back to Fort Lauderdale. I hadn’t even called my brother to tell him I was coming, I’d simply shown up at the door.

“You look like you need a drink,” Remy said the moment he saw me.

We walked through the house toward his study, and he closed the French doors behind us.

“Scotch, bourbon, or brandy?” he asked.

“Scotch.”

“You hate scotch,” he said, arching a brow.

“I know. I need something to burn its way down and make me feel even shittier than I already do.”

He chuckled. “I can do that.”

He poured us each a glass and sat across from me, waiting patiently for me to get my shit together enough to tell him what was going on.

“I assume you’ve heard about Devyn?” I asked finally.

“I saw some shit online about her doing porn to put herself through college. I didn’t click on any links, though.” He paused. “How’s she handling it all?”

“I don’t know exactly,” I admitted. “We sort of had a fight.”

“You don’t know whether or not you had a fight? And what was there to fight about? If you tell me you’re mad about her past I’m going to kick your ass.”

I almost smiled.

My brother knew me well.

“We didn’t fight about the porn. We argued about the fact that I’ve asked her repeatedly to give me a head’s up on anything that might come back to haunt her because I knew there was something she wasn’t telling me. And she just kept saying she was fine, there was nothing to tell, blah blah. She lied right to my face, knowing that the band is just coming off the scandal of Carter’s suicide.”

He grimaced. “I don’t know if I’d call that a scandal, but I get what you mean.”

“Right, so it would have been helpful if she’d given us a head’s up. I could have made this into a non-issue.”

“Maybe. But you have to get how scared she was.”

“I’ve fucking busted my ass to show her how much I care about her!” I snapped. “I mean, I got the guys to give up their rights to a song we’re going to release, to assure that the money would be hers no matter what. I personally had a security system installed in her house so she wouldn’t have to worry about her grandmother when she’s not there. I—”

“Okay, stop.” Remy held up a hand. He was seven years older than I was, and I’d always looked up to him. He didn’t dole out advice often, but it was usually spot on when he did. I desperately needed his counsel in this situation, so I took another sip of scotch as I waited for him to continue.

“All those things you’ve done for her are nice. They are. You’ve been a good guy who’s shown her that you care about important things in her life. I’m not negating that, but tell me about your personal relationship. And I am not talking about sex.” He gave me a look at the end.

“What do you want to know?” I asked slowly. “We had a strong connection from the first time we met. We acknowledged it and decided it wouldn’t be professional for us to act on it. She had all these concerns about how it would look for me to be sleeping with the new bass player. I agreed, even though I didn’t want to, figuring I’d either get distracted by someone else or we’d find our way to each other once we were on tour.” I paused, thinking back to the night of the show at the Whiskey. “We spent time together after that, and the feelings only got stronger. Then the gig at the Whiskey happened. We all went out afterwards, a big group of us, and after too many bottles of champagne and a lot of dancing and eye-gazing, you can guess what happened next.”

“Did you start dating or just sleeping together?”

I scratched my chin. “Both. More sex than dating, but that wasn’t my fault. I tried. She wanted to keep it a secret for a little longer, until we were on tour. She wanted the fans to like her before they found out she was my girlfriend, so we kept things on the down low.”

“And?”

“And?” I wasn’t sure what he was after.
