I stared. “Is that… possible?”

“I mean, technically, yeah. The only person I’ve slept with in the last four months or so was Kellan on Thanksgiving. I haven’t had a period since then but mine are always random anyway.”

“Do we need to go to the hospital?”

“I beginning to think so. This is bad. I had to stuff a washcloth in there.”

“Shit. Okay, I’m calling down to the desk. Someone will be able to help us.”

She leaned against the wall as I grabbed the room phone.

“Hello, this is Devyn Monahan, room 1122. My friend is having a medical emergency and we need to find the nearest hospital.”

“Of course, Ms. Monahan. Would you like us to call for help or would you rather take a taxi?”

“I think a taxi would be faster, if you can call one for us?”

“Absolutely. Come right down.”

“Thank you.” I grabbed my backpack and Jesse’s purse. “Put some sweats or something on. They’re calling a cab for us.”

“Fuck, Dev, I’m sorry.” Her eyes filled with tears.

“Don’t worry about me, let’s just get you the help you need.”

“You think I’m pregnant?” she whispered, leaning against me in the elevator.

“Did you use condoms?”

“Yes.”

“The doctors will know what to do.”

“I’m scared.”

“I’ll be with you, and once we get there, I’ll call Sasha to make sure the band gets involved.”

“Why would the band need to get involved?”

“I don’t know the healthcare system here, so we might need the band to cover the costs if they won’t treat you or something. I don’t want you to worry about that.”

“Thanks.” She squeezed my hand.

Since I was worried, I pulled out my phone to text Sasha on the way to the hospital. To my surprise, there were a few missed calls and a handful of texts from Kingston. I didn’t have time to deal with him right now, though, and I didn’t bother to read them before texting Sasha.

DEVYN: Hey, I have a problem. My friend and I just got to London and she’s bleeding. Bad enough for us to be headed to the hospital. I don’t know the system here, but she has insurance in the States, so they’ll probably reimburse her but I don’t want money to be an issue until we find out what’s going on. Can you help? And please don’t say anything to the guys yet. I’ll explain when I see you.

I figured she didn’t need to tell the guys that Jesse might be having a miscarriage, especially since it was Kellan’s baby if she was. There was enough drama going on without that kind of distraction.

SASHA: We just got to London, so once we get to the hotel I’ll detour to the hospital. And I won’t say anything until we know what’s what.

DEVYN: Thanks.

We’d just pulled up to the hospital and a nurse came running out with a wheelchair, so I stuffed my phone in my back pocket and followed them inside.

I felt bad I’d dragged Jesse to London with me when she wasn’t feeling well, but she’d been fine yesterday. From what I could gather, she hadn’t had any inkling she might be pregnant, so this seemed to have come out of left field.

“Ms. Monahan?” An attractive middle-aged woman in a white coat came out. “I’m Dr. Scott. Jesse’s asking for you.”
