I hesitated. “Only a handful of times, unfortunately. I’d love for her to see a few of the shows in Europe, but that’s a long trip at her age, and she would need someone to travel with her.”

“Maybe we can figure something out,” Kingston said thoughtfully. “So she can see a handful of back-to-back shows. Maybe London, Manchester, and Edinburgh.”

“She’d be beside herself,” I said, chuckling.

“We can hire someone to take care of her and Aunt Meg.”

“Who?”

“Meg is Presley’s great-aunt. The one that lives with them. I think you met her?”

“Oh, right. I guess it’s a thing, huh? Her great-aunt and my great-grandmother.”

“Meg is only about sixty but she has MS so she isn’t always real steady on her feet. I think Z was going to hire someone to travel with her, so maybe we can do something where it’s for both Meg and Greatty.”

“That would be amazing,” I said, glancing over at him. “She means the world to me and it would be incredible for her to see me performing in Europe. Even if it’s just a few shows.”

“Meg is only staying for the UK shows, so if we set it up for them to travel together, I think it’ll make it easier for everyone. And then you don’t have to worry about her and can have some fun.”

“Fun.” I closed my eyes and let my head fall back against the seat. “I don’t have a lot of that.”

“No? How come?”

“I don’t know. I’m kind of an old soul sometimes. I work a lot of hours, sixty or seventy-hour weeks when I’m on a big project. So then I just want to relax. I take Greatty to church on Sundays and then we do the grocery shopping and cook together. It’s really the only day I see her, and I like spending time with her.”

“I like spending time with my mom too, but I still need to get my party on when I’m on tour.”

“Oh, there will be partying in my future.” I chuckled. “I’m a little out of practice, so you might have to remind me how, but it’s going to happen.”

“We’re a little wild sometimes, but we’re beyond the tear-up-hotel-rooms-and-break-shit phase.”

“I’ll bet you’ve all had to re-think a lot of things after what happened with Carter.”

“Yeah. That.” He looked away, his face momentarily pensive.

God, he was beautiful.

A veritable rock god, all chiseled features, eyes like emeralds, and a smile you could get lost in.

What was happening to me?

Every time I looked at him my insides felt a little funny. I hadn’t had such a strong reaction to a man since high school, when the captain of the basketball team had asked me to junior prom. I’d thought I knew what lust was. Well, that was a joke. This right here? This was raw, gritty, hardcore chemistry. Lust had nothing on how my girlie parts reacted every time Kingston looked at me.

Of course, he probably wasn’t really looking at me. Not like that. Not like a man looks at a woman. He dated women like Cheyenne, the supermodel he’d recently broken up with. She was one of those women who was beyond beautiful. Perfect features, a killer figure, and a smile that probably brought men to their knees. Essentially, everything I wasn’t. Not that there was anything wrong with me. I just chose to hide it most of the time. Normally, I didn’t give a shit, but for some reason, I hated not looking feminine in front of Kingston.

Stop it, I chided myself. This is business. Don’t let your hormones fuck up the greatest career opportunity you might ever have.

Hopefully, he’d start dating someone else soon. Knowing he was off the market would help me move on from this ridiculous infatuation I seemed to have. I’d been serious when I’d told the band that I wasn’t interested in sleeping with any of them. They were all physically attractive, but so were lots of men. I needed to keep my eye on the ball and didn’t have time to get involved with anyone, much less one of the guys in my new band. Plus, a guy like him wouldn’t want to be with me once he found out about my past.

Nope, I had to stay focused on the prize, which was the fame and fortune that would come with being in a band like Onyx Knight.

Romance could come later.

“I love this place,” Kingston said as we walked down the store-lined street. There were shops, restaurants, bars, and kiosks on both sides, and no cars could drive in this area, so it was a nice place to just walk around.

“I do too,” I said. “I don’t get here often but last time my friend Jesse came to visit, we came here and did a bunch of shopping, lunch, and even got pedicures. That maybe have been the last time I came.” I grimaced.

“You definitely need to relax sometimes,” he said. “You know what they say about all work and no play.”
