“Thank you. I appreciate everything you’re doing.”

“Well, don’t get used to it,” I quipped. “In a few months, you’ll be taking care of all this shit yourself.”

“Noted.” She smiled and looked around. “Okay, let’s get these jokers to settle down.” She put two fingers in his mouth and let out a sharp whistle.

Tommy and Kellan were still messing around, chasing each other as they threw more fake punches, but they pulled up short.

“Damn, you’ve got some lungs!” Tommy said, laughing.

“Hey.” Z came in with a weird look on his face. “You guys been online this morning?”

All of us paused, looking at him.

I shook my head. “No. Why?”

He took a breath. “Lara is as unimpressed with us as we were with her.”

“Seriously?” I yanked my phone out of my pocket. “Send me a link.”

“Let’s get a group chat going,” Devyn suggested. “That way we can all see stuff when it comes up and exchange information as needed.”

“Good idea,” Tommy said.

“I’ll do it,” I muttered, creating a text with their contact information. “There. Send it, Z.”

It took a few seconds for the link to come through and it seemed like we all clicked on it simultaneously.

“Oh, she can suck my non-existent dick,” Devyn growled.

Despite my annoyance, I chuckled. “Easy, turbo. Nobody needs to see anyone’s non-existent dicks.”

“I’d rather she suck my very real dick so I can ram it down her throat,” Tommy muttered, shaking his head. “What a cunt.”

“I already blacklisted her with Dorian,” I said. “Lara probably figured her days were numbered, so she went for it.” I glanced at Devyn. “You okay?”

“Fuck her.” Devyn closed her phone and stuffed it in her back pocket. “I don’t have time for this kind of shit. Saying I appeared out of nowhere and asking if there was nepotism involved? I don’t even know my dad, and my mom knows nothing about the music biz. What the fuck.”

“Did she even record the interview?” Kellan asked. “Jesus, none of us said any of this. It’s like she pulled it out of her ass.”

“She was making room in there for a non-existent dick,” Tommy deadpanned.

We all cracked up.

“Okay. Are we going to play or what?” Devyn demanded.

“Let’s do it.” Kellan headed for the stage.

I nudged Devyn with my elbow as I walked past her. “Welcome to Onyx Knight’s rock and roll circus.”

“Thanks. I think.”

“… a college-educated princess who bats her big blue eyes whenever she wants attention from the guys in the band.” I was reading Lara’s article to Greatty the next morning at breakfast, and she was even more aggravated than I was.

“I didn’t think you even knew how to bat your eyes,” Greatty murmured, peering at me over the top of her Foo Fighters coffee mug. “You’re not girlie like that.”’
