I grab my cell and dial. She picks up just when I was about to give up.

“Hey,” she says. “Perfect timing, I just left my class. You taking a break?”

“Yeah. All day actually…”

“What’s going on?” Concern instantly hops into her voice.

“I hurt my leg last night. Not serious, but Dash ordered me to take a day off.”

“Shit, Moll, is it bad? Are you okay?”

“It’s fine. A cut, but I didn’t need stitches, and a bruise that I’ll barely feel tomorrow.”

“You sure?”

“Yeah. I’m good. I’m bored. I hate sitting around doing nothing.”

“Well, I have news for you,” she says, cheerfully.

“I have news for you, too.” I need to tell my sister about last night. I’m dying to tell someone and I don’t have any other someones to tell. “But you go first.”

“I contacted the hotel at Starlight Ranch. The general manager…”

“Savannah?”

“Yeah, Savannah. I told her I’m your sister, and she responded to my email. She said they don’t work with a wedding planner. She told me to see her as soon as I move in!”

“That’s amazing, Lil!” A wave of happiness and relief wash over me. I’m so proud to call this woman my sister. She has all the determination in the world, and I love that about her. “That would be awesome if we both work on-site.”

“I know! I’ve missed not being around you more. Who would have ever thought the Russo sisters would be small-town girls? Anyway, how did you hurt your leg?”

I laugh.

“Um, Mols, that’s not your funny haha laugh, that’s your nervous laugh. What happened?”

My words come out fast and somewhat unclear, like I’m an auctioneer. “I went to see what Dash does at night, fell down a cliff, he rescued me, and then we had sex.”

“You what?” She shouts so loudly into the cell I have to pull mine away from my ear. “What the hell?”

I bite my lip.

“You had sex with your boss?”

“Well, actually he’s myfriendnow. Well, and my boss, but we’re friends, too.”

“Oh, that makes it better? Fuck, Molly…”

“I know…” I let out a heavy breath, and it flaps my lips. “But we actually had a great talk this morning. I think things will be even better now between us. We’re on the same page.”

My sister lets out a big, howling laugh. “Better?”

“Stop. I know a lot more about him now. Before there was just me thinking there was a bomb of sexual tension waiting to explode, and at least now I know it was two-sided which made me feel better, and I also know he’s not grumpy. He told me his story, Lil, and… boy do I get why he is the way he is.”

I recount Dash’s story in detail, because I tell my sister everything, but I make her promise never to tell a soul because I know how private it is to Dash.

“That’s honestly heartbreaking, babe.” Her voice is full of genuine sympathy. “I hate that for him. I hate he’s been hurt like that. And… I don’t want to sound harsh but I don’t think you two should be friends.”

“What? That’s a bit mean,” I say sourly.
