He was being stealthy, and I couldn't even sleep thinking about him stalking Tatum the way he seemed to be doing. What lengths was he willing to go to? And was he asking me to meet up with her a part of his plan? Did he already know we'd met?

Then there was the darker part of me wondering if Tatum knew the whole time. It was easy to wash that thought away because what would she have to gain? What would anyone achieve? Plus, the entire ruse to hang out with Hunter's girlfriend was apparently my idea in the first place.

Practice had been a waste of time, and obviously, there was no meeting I had to attend. The team was defeated morally, and in the standings. For the remaining two games, the starters wouldn't even be on the field, and Cruz had taken a leave of absence. We were all worried about him, and I agreed to help keep an eye on him, but I was also selfishly distracted by my own issues.

Leaving my surfboard with the concierge, I entered the outdoor area of Nikki's, where the umbrellas and canopies were hiding everyone from the sun. Without wanting to look like a jerk, I subtly walked around and looked for Tatum before asking for my own setup and texting her to tell her I was there.

"Mr. Maddux?" The host ran up, almost out of breath, trying to get my attention. "This note was left for you."

Nodding a thank you, I took the note and smiled when I saw the same handwriting my last message was left with:

I'm in a cabana. Come find me.

The cabanas were private and way more luxurious than the standard setup. You had to reserve one beforehand, and I didn't have the forethought to do that. But I was glad Coconut had. Each cabana faced the ocean and had private curtains that fell around the other three sides of the square roof. Instead of loungers, there was a queen-sized bed with enough pillows to stock a department store. The best part was that each cabana also had its own private server, meaning we would never run out of piña coladas.

The only problem was, I didn't want to peek into each one trying to find her. The odds of me accidentally stumbling onto two people fucking was high.

"Excuse me?" I hollered back at the retreating host, who handed me the note. He had almost made his way off the beach but turned around and faced me with a big smile.

"Yes, Mr. Maddux?"

"Can you just take me to her?" He knew what I meant because he knew who wrote the note and what it said. "Please don't make me look."

He gave me a small laugh, knowing why I was hesitant, and shook his head. "She told me not to tattle. She told me twice." He held up two fingers and winked before turning around and walking into the main building.

Running a hand down my face, I groaned and looked down the beach toward the cabanas. There were only ten of them, but with my luck, Tatum would be in the last one. That was when it hit me: the tiny hint the host gave me. He held up two fingers and winked, so maybe that meant she was in the second one.

The walking path was behind the cabanas for privacy, so when I got to the second one, I stepped off the trail into the sand, making my way around the curtain wall. Thankfully, Coconut sat there with her legs crisscrossed, staring into the ocean in a daze. She barely even saw me approaching.

She jumped out of her thoughts when I knelt on the bed next to her.

"You made me find you again," I teased, running a hand up her leg.

Her straight smile wasn't full of excitement or lust; it was lost and distracted. I got up next to her and laid on my side, facing her and propping my head on my hand.

"What did he do?" I asked on instinct, feeling in my gut that Hunter had somehow fucked with her mood.

"You tell me."

"Excuse me?"

She turned to face me and tilted her head, her eyes looking angry. "Tell me what he did."

Fuck, she knew. But shouldn't I be the one that was pissed?

"Having a change of heart?" I asked bitterly, not moving from my seemingly relaxed position. My muscles had tightened, and my jaw was locked, but my eyes held hers, not giving in to whatever she wanted to fight with me about.

"He came over after you left, and stayed all night." What the fuck?

"Is that supposed to bother me? I don't care who you fuck. In fact, good for you, finally getting him to bring his dick out for you."

"We didn't…How dare you think I'd sleep with him on the same night I was with you."

"If it's his dick you want, and being with me kicked him into giving you what you want, then you're welcome."

Her hand came across my face, slapping me and forcing me to sit up and grab her wrist. Twisting around, I laid her back and hovered over the top of her. My cock was getting hard because that was the only way it knew to be when she was next to me.

She shook her arms, trying to get out of my hold, and once I was sure she knew I had the upper hand, I released her, not wanting her to feel trapped. "I knew all you wanted from me was sex. But I didn't realize it was a game to you."
