“Tay,” he warned again. I kept waiting for him to run, flee the apartment, and save himself, but he stood still, also knowing that he had to be there to defend himself.

“Was I always a pawn in this game?”

“Fucking hell,” Hunter hissed as Tripp tensed up, creating a tighter hold on my waist.

Taking my hand to Hunter’s cheek, I gently wrapped my fingers around his ear and then pressed my thumb to his ear lobe. It was small, but there was a faint hole where he had an earring before.

Bringing it to Tripp’s attention made him gasp, and the pieces fell into place. “It was you.”

ChapterThirty-Seven

Tripp

“Me?” Hunter snapped. “What was me?”

Reaching over Tatum, I grabbed Hunter’s shirt and pulled him as close to my face as possible. Tatum’s hands went up to Hunter’s chest to keep him from crushing her, but she didn’t get upset. She knew I had just realized what I needed to see all along.

“You didn’t take the picture,” I snarled at him, “You were in the picture.”

His face paled, and his mouth parted. “What?”

"Did I taste good? Did I scratch the back of your throat?"

I could practically see his heart beating from the vein in his neck as he swallowed.

“Honestly, baby,” I continued to taunt him. “If you wanted to suck my cock, all you had to do was ask.”

He started shaking his head, but I could see the truth in his eyes. The only thing I didn’t know was why he did it. To ruin me? To set me up? Or because...?

"Wait—" he tried to defend himself before I interrupted him.

“You didn’t count on me not giving a fuck, did you?” Laughing, I pushed him away from Tatum and me, making him fall back on my couch. “Coconut?”

“Yeah?” She never looked at me but kept her eyes on Hunter as I spoke into her ear from behind.

My body was thriving off the bitter hatred in the room. Somehow, I was turned on just knowing how miserable he must have been. “No one sucks my cock better than you do. Hunter wasn’t good enough to even remember.”

She turned around and glanced up into my eyes, looking possessive, like when she thought the server was watching us on the beach. It wasn't just me that was balancing all my emotions. She was checked out in a way I’d never seen before.

Taking a finger down her cheek, I quietly begged her to calm me down. To keep me from spiraling.

Placing a soft kiss on my finger, she nodded, giving me the strength to turn my attention back to Hunter.

“Why?” I asked him.

All he did was shake his head as he focused on Tatum, seeing her practically submit to me in a way that probably made him uncomfortable. She listened to everything he said, but her eyes stayed on me, letting me know she cared more about my reaction.

“Why set me up with Tatum? Why risk losing her?”

“She wasn’t mine,” he finally said. “I knew I had lost her before I sent you.”

“Why?” I asked with more anger. “How?”

“You met her at the beach, and she was no longer the same.”

“How did you know I met her at the beach?”

With a gasp, Tatum fell to her knees, unable to respond to Hunter or deal with her anger as she kept listening to us. All she could do was keep her back to him, soothingly running her hand up and down my legs. Hunter kept his eyes on her, tilting his head and running his own questions through his mind.
