I backed up a few more steps, my eyes cutting to her as Jace moved behind her and draped his arm around her waist. Anger surged through me, and it took some serious self-control not to put a bullet in his head. Rynn didn’t fight his hold. Her focus stayed solely on me.Go, she mouthed.Talk to her.I scowled, not moving a muscle. She wanted me to leave her here? Not fucking happening.

“Gage,” she said loudly, her voice pleading. “They aren’t going to kill me. Go.”

“Yeah,Gage,” Jace mocked, brushing his lips to the side of her head. “Leave her here with us.”

“You talk shit while hiding behind her,” I snarled. “You want me to go back to Chris, then come fucking make me.”

“He doesn’t need to when we’re here,” Kian replied, stopping just out of arm’s reach.

I let out a dry laugh. “You two are suddenly best friends now?”

“Our gangs made peace to take down the Phantoms.” Jace’s words contradicted Rynn’s eye roll as she shook her head. Interesting. She didn’t believe his words.

“You going to walk out of here with us?” Kian questioned, his eyes narrowing. “Or do we need to make you?”

“You can try.” I chuckled, keeping his stare as I slid the chamber from my gun and dropped it to the floor. “Come on, Kian. You think you can take me?”

“Gage,” Rynn screamed. “Just fucking go.”

“She really wants you to leave,” Kian murmured as we both shifted slightly. “Need to go talk to your boss about what to do? Or is she just worried about you?”

I gave him a leering grin in response as Tripp and Pratt backed away, blocking the exit. As much as I hated to admit it, Rynn was right. It wouldn’t do any good for me to be trapped with the Disciples. Unless I killed them, I wasn’t getting out of this room. And if I did that, I wouldn’t get far before their gangs caught up to me. If they wanted Rynn dead, they wouldn’t be keeping her on campus. I wasn’t sure what they had planned for her, but they wanted her alive.

Going to see Ellie was the smartest thing. We needed to plan, and I had to see what she wanted to do to get Rynn off campus and away from these assholes. There was no way I was getting her out of this room by myself, and that realization made rage buzz through my veins. I didn’t want to leave her with them. But if I tried to get her out, I’d end up back in Pacific Point, where I was useless.

Risking a look at Rynn while Kian circled around, I bit my tongue when she silently told me to leave again. Jace’s smug grin made me want to charge across the room and wipe it from his face. He pulled her closer, as if reading my mind, and a snarl burned my throat as I resisted the urge to lunge at him.

Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Kian dart forward, and I twisted to the side, dodging his hit by an inch. And even though all my instincts were screaming at me to fight back, I retreated. It went against everything I knew. I never backed down. I didn’t stop fighting until the other guy was on the fucking ground. Kian’s eyes flashed with suspicion when I moved away from him. His gaze went behind me to where Pratt and Tripp were, and I whirled around before I lost the element of surprise.

I swung, hitting Pratt in the jaw hard enough that he went to the floor. Tripp jumped on me, his arm wrapping around my throat to try and get me in a chokehold. I gripped his arm, my nails digging into his skin as I crouched forward and flipped him over me. I sucked in breaths when I was free of him and shot out the door. I could hear Kian yelling, most likely calling whoever else they had near the dorms.

I raced down the stairs, not slowing down as I left the building. Because if I hesitated for even a second, then I was going to lose my resolve and go back upstairs to Rynn. Ripping open the door, I grumbled under my breath. There were three guys waiting on the sidewalk. All of them straightened up when I appeared, and I cursed myself for leaving my gun upstairs.

“You need to come with us,” one of the guys ordered as they got closer.

I shuffled to the left, going toward the parking lot. “Sorry, assholes. Not happening.”

“We have people watching the road,” the guys snapped. “You can’t leave campus.”

“Thanks for sharing.”

Suddenly, I was blinded when car headlights flicked on. I squinted, watching a car surge forward, heading straight for the three guys in my way. They yelled, stumbling over each other to get out of the way.

“Get in.”

I recognized Hyde’s voice and hesitated for only a second before I jumped into the passenger seat. Hyde peeled out, turning the car around and racing through the parking lot.

“Thanks,” I muttered, looking over my shoulder to see the guys trying to chase us.

“Where’s Rynn?”

I scowled. “Not with me.”

“You didn’t get her?” Hyde asked, frowning as he glanced at me.

“Didn’t really have a fucking choice.” I pulled out my phone to text Ellie. “I need to get off campus.”

“There’s a back road behind The Pit that leads to town,” Hyde said as he slowed down and turned away from the main buildings. “Rynn usually keeps a car a couple miles away in case she needs a quick way out.”
