“Give me your phone,” I told him, holding out my hand.

Hyde paused for a moment before handing it to me. I punched in the number of my burner phone and then sent myself a text so I’d have the number.

“Call me if anything happens.” I tossed his phone into his lap. “They aren’t going to let her out of their sight.”

“You’re just going to leave her here?”

“For now,” I murmured, looking out the window, my heart rate not slowing down at all. “But when I come back, I won’t be alone. And all fucking bets will be off.”

I messedwith the unlit joint, rolling it between my fingers as I waited for Chris to show up. I was in the house that I’d brought Rynn and Gage to, and I peered around the study, getting impatient. I’d been here a half hour and was still waiting. He was the one who demanded I come home to talk, yet he wasn’t even here.

Sitting on the leather sofa, I turned my attention to the crystal ashtray that was on the glass coffee table in front of me. My lighter was next to it, and I sighed before tossing the joint down too. With the week I’d had, it would be amazing to just relax for a while. But I couldn’t risk it now. Not when I was about to talk to Chris or drive back to Little Haven. I couldn’t afford to let my guard down anywhere now.

My thoughts drifted back to Rynn, and my body flushed with the emotions that had been strangling me for the last few days. I was pissed at her. Still in disbelief about what she’d done. Suspicious as fuck about how she pulled it off. Yet I was still worried for her—which pissed me off even more. And so was Kian, even if he hadn’t admitted it. Which was why neither of us had told anyone that she was the one behind all of this.

A minute later, the door swung open, and Chris strode in without any of his men following. I straightened up as he sat on the chair across from me and pulled out a pack of cigarettes. He snatched my lighter and put the cigarette between his lips before lighting it.

After blowing out a cloud of smoke, he started the conversation. “Where is she?”

“On campus.”

He raised an eyebrow. “With Grimrose?”

“Pratt is there too.” I leaned back against the cushions. “You don’t trust them even after the deal?”

He scoffed. “I’ll never fucking trust them. But they do honor their agreements. I’m not worried right now. Where’s Gage? You were supposed to bring him with you.”

My jaw clenched. “He got off campus. We couldn’t find him.”

“Not fucking good, Jace,” Chris snapped, his eyes darkening in annoyance. “He’s the leverage we need to be sure she behaves. I still think she should stay here.”

“I can handle her,” I ground out, keeping my voice steady.

“We need to get her to talk,” Chris murmured. “She has secrets, and I want to know what the hell they are.”

“She’ll talk,” I told him. “Let me deal with it.”

Chris studied me for a moment, puffing on his cigarette before he let out a chuckle. “I know you’ll get it done. With the shit going on with the Jackals and now this new peace with Grimrose, I need to delegate. You handle Rynn and campus.”

I relaxed a bit, now that I knew he didn’t want her in Pacific Point. I wasn’t sure what the fuck was going to happen on campus, but at least Chris was taking a back seat on it. For now, anyway.

“I want you to keep an eye on Kian,” Chris added.

“Won’t be hard, seeing as the deal was that we both watch her,” I muttered.

“I want to know the ins and outs of Grimrose.”

My eyes cut to his. “You want me to spy?”

“Is that an issue?”

“No,” I said quickly, leaning forward and resting my elbows on my knees. “But we made peace. You shook Hayes’s hand. You going to go back on your word?”

“Of course not,” Chris replied, his voice laced with warning. “But the peace won’t last forever, Jace. And I still fucking want Little Haven.”

I swallowed my shock, dropping my gaze to the table between us, not wanting him to see my reaction. The deal with Grimrose was to take Little Haven together.
