“She’s no one except a girl I work for,” I told him, keeping my voice as steady as I could. “That’s why I’m in Little Haven.”

“The two of you are more than that. And if you want to make sure nothing happens to her, you’re going to do exactly what I tell you.” He paused, and when I stayed silent, he shrugged. “But if you don’t care what happens to her, then by all means, leave. But you won’t, will you?”

Red lined my vision as I kept my arms crossed, my nails digging into my forearm. “What do you want?”

He grinned, pulling a phone from his pocket and setting it in the middle of the table. “Wait for my call. And don’t try to disappear—or it’s her that’ll pay the price.”

“I’m not going anywhere,” I growled, hopelessness tightening my chest.

“Too bad,” he muttered with a shake of his head. “I’d rather not stay in this state any fucking longer than I have to.”

“Why?” I asked, hoping he’d let something slip. King obviously wasn’t his real name, and I needed to learn all I could about him because if he so much as touched Rynn, he was fucking dead.

“Doesn’t matter,” he replied coolly. “They won’t know I’m here. No one will. Because you won’t tell a soul. You know they have people everywhere. Their reach is endless. They even have some eyes in that school of yours.”

Panic slithered through my gut at the thought of people at school being connected to this. It wasn’t safe there for me or Rynn anymore.Fuck.I had to find a way to keep her out of all this shit.

“Don’t think you can leave with her,” he threatened, as if knowing that was what I was thinking. “You leave Little Haven, and they’ll be waiting. Although, it seems there are two gangs watching her too. Either way, she’s not going anywhere.”

“You’re going to stay away from her,” I snarled, unable to hold it back. “This has nothing to do with her.”

“I agree,” he replied. “Which is why you’ll do what I say so she stays out of it. Answer when I call.”

With those words, he stood up and walked away. I snatched up the phone he’d left and opened it, seeing only one number in it. My heart was racing, and I took out my own phone to text Ellie. I wouldn’t tell her what was happening. Not yet. If she found out, she’d do anything to help me, which could go wrong if this asshole found out I’d told her. I wouldn’t chance that. Not until I knew more. But I sure as hell wasn’t driving home so he could follow. I’d just go back to Little Haven.

I stalked back to the car, hitting the steering wheel once I was inside. Fuck, this was bad.

“Ready?”I asked as I met Jace outside his dorm.

He nodded, pushing off the wall and falling into step with me as we walked toward the main building.

“Have you seen her?” Jace glanced at me.

I shook my head. “I’ve seen Gage. I don’t think she’s back from wherever the hell she went.”

We had watched them drive off campus a couple of days ago, and Gage showed back up after a few hours without Rynn. We hadn’t seen her since. Maybe she decided she was finally done here. Although I doubted it with Gage still here. Part of me was relieved. I wanted her out before shit got worse. But a larger part of me was uneasy about not knowing where she was. I didn’t like not having her close, and that was a fucking problem.

I’d have to get past that fast, especially since Jace and I were on our way to make sure she stayed off campus permanently.

Jace pushed open the door, and we strode down the long hall, stepping into the dean’s office area. His secretary glanced up, a frown appearing on her face when she recognized us. She nervously brushed back her blond hair, straightening up in her chair.

“We need to talk to the dean,” Jace drawled, plastering on a fake smile.

“Do you boys have an appointment?” she asked shrilly.

“He knows we’re coming,” I answered. I’d called the dean’s personal number last night and informed him that we needed to have a little conversation about the video that was in my possession.

She scrambled to her feet, rushing to the door in the back and knocking on it lightly before cracking it open. She stuck her head inside the room, and I could hear quiet arguing before she turned back around and pushed the door wide open.

“He’ll see you now,” she clipped out as she sat back at her desk.

I walked into his office first, coming to a halt when I saw he wasn’t alone. Jace pushed his way next to me, a curse falling from his lips when his gaze fell on the person in here with the dean. Rynn turned in the chair she was in, shooting us a devious smirk. But her being here wasn’t the shock.

The police chief, Torres, was standing near the window, his glare focused on us.

“Are we interrupting?” Jace asked casually.
