“No,” Torres answered, his dislike for both of us apparent in his voice. “Sit down. We need to talk.”

Annoyance flared at his command, but we weren’t in a position to start a war with this guy now. What the fuck was he even doing on campus? Rynn jumped up since there were only two chairs in front of the desk, and she bounced away, looking way too cheery as she leaned against the wall near the bookshelf. Jace and I sat down, and I gave the dean a long stare, silently warning him that if this went south, that video was going to be released.

“Let’s drop the charade.” Torres crossed his arms, glaring at the dean. “Jennings says you two are following the rules and your grades are…adequate. He has no reason to expel you.”

“We’re here for the amazing education—”

“Cut the shit,” Torres interrupted Jace, stepping next to Jennings and slamming his palms on the desk. “I’ve been waiting for a chance to get you the hell out of my city, but you’re more careful than I gave you credit for. Although some of your men haven’t been as lucky, have they?”

I bit my tongue to keep quiet. He’d been arresting as many of our men as he could, and so far, three from my gang and four from Jace’s had gotten caught up with something. The cops have been pulling them over for anything. Not using a blinker or rolling a stop sign, and the second they had cause to search, the guys were arrested for possession of a weapon or if they had any drugs on them.

“Jennings will tell me the second either of you fuck up,” Torres continued, glancing at the dean. “Won’t you?”

Jennings swallowed thickly, his eyes darting to me before nodding quickly. “Yes, of course.”

Thank fuck I had that video.

“Is that it?” Jace asked, keeping his voice level. “You came all the way here to threaten us?”

Rynn couldn’t hide the smug smile as she kept her gaze on Jace and me. My heart beat unevenly, knowing there was something more going on. Jace shifted, seeming uneasy after shooting her a look.

“One of the teachers overheard a conversation that there were plans to get Rynn kicked out of school.” Torres tilted his head. “Is that true?”

“What? No,” I answered smoothly. “We have no issue with her.”

“She is an exceptional student, and I will not have you two terrorizing her,” he bellowed. “If I had concrete proof, or if someone had given me your names, you’d both be gone.”

“That would be impossible, since we didn’t do anything,” Jace gritted out.

“I heard about the peace pact you two have,” he said in a lower voice. “I know what you’re trying to do. Pass this little message along to your bosses—I’m not fucking going anywhere. This job will stay mine.”

“Good for you,” I replied airily. “We’re just here to graduate.”

My suspicion was burning as I snuck another look at Rynn. How did she find out what we were doing? The entire point of this meeting was to blackmail the dean to get her expelled. To get her out of Little Haven. Torres rounded the desk, making Jace and I shoot to our feet as he invaded our space.

“You’re lucky I have eyes on me, or I might break my rules and go beneath the law to get rid of you,” he hissed under his breath. “You don’t belong here.”

“Is that a threat?” Jace countered. “I feel like that’s a threat. I think I’m scared for my life.”

“Sounded like a threat to me,” I spoke up. “Maybe you should call the police and document it.”

“You have cameras in here, Dean?” Jace questioned, pretending to inspect the corners. “Because I’d need a copy of the recording. For evidence.”

“Of course I don’t have cameras in here,” Jennings sputtered.

“Enough,” Torres snapped, his eyes gleaming with rage. “One day, the two of you will mess up. And when that happens, I’ll be waiting. And you better leave Rynn alone.”

With that, he nodded at Rynn in a silent goodbye before storming out of the office. Jennings slumped in his seat while Jace shuffled to the side, blocking the door when Rynn moved to leave.

“Next time, I expect a warning before walking into something like this,” I told Jennings coldly. “What the fuck was that?”

“He showed up a minute before you,” Jennings argued, readjusting his tie. “I didn’t have time.”

“Better stay in line, or this video goes live,” Jace threatened. “Got it?”

“I understand,” Jennings bit out. “Now, please get the hell out of my office.”

Jace stayed at Rynn’s side when she walked out, and I flanked the other side of her as we went down the hall.
