“Stop,” Hayes commanded, pushing the barrel of the gun harder against my skull.

“Dad,” Kian hissed. “You can’t kill her.”

“No, we can’t,” Hayes agreed, not moving the gun from my head. “She’s coming back to Pacific Point with me.”

“The fuck I am.” I darted away, since he’d just admitted he wasn’t going to kill me. Nick reached for me, and I veered away from him before new arms wrapped around my waist. Kian crushed me to his chest, and I wasn’t sure if he was protecting me from his dad or keeping me in this room, but either way, I couldn’t chance it. There was no way I was going with Hayes.

“Get off me, Kian,” I warned, my voice leaving no room for arguments.

“Give her to Nick.” Hayes pulled out his phone as he spoke. “I’ll have my man pull the car to the front of the dorms—”

“No,” I screamed, struggling in Kian’s arms. “You take me out of Little Haven, and you’re dead. All of you.”

Hayes ignored me, lifting his gaze toward Kian. “Stay on campus. Do not tell anyone she’s with us. Play dumb around Jace. The Disciples can’t fucking know about this yet. I’ll explain it to you when we have more time.”

“Got it,” Kian clipped out.

He released me, pushing me into Nick, who snatched my wrist and wrenched it behind my back, raising it until I gritted my teeth from the strain. I raised my head, my fight absent for a moment as I glared at Kian. His cold expression stabbed me right in the heart. I didn’t know why I’d expected him to take my side. This was his dad and his gang. I was just a girl he fucked. But after the heart to heart we’d just had, maybe I was expecting something different. He didn’t meet my eyes as Nick dragged me toward the door, his tight hold allowing him to keep me under control.

“You want a war?” I tried again to get them to let me go. “If you do this, that’s what you’re going to get. And it’s going to be something you can’t win.”

Hayes tugged the door, opening it wide, but before Nick could pull me from the room, another body filled the doorway. I let out a breath of relief when Gage raised his gun, aiming it at Hayes’s chest as he stepped into the room. Nick’s hold on my wrist turned bruising when more guys appeared behind Gage, staying in the hall. My guy Hyde and at least four others were here, even though I’d told them weeks ago to stay away.

“Better tell your man to release her before you get a bullet in your heart,” Gage ordered, fury coating his voice.

Hayes squared up, his rage-fueled glare on Gage. “Do you know who I am?”

“You’re going to be a dead man if you don’t let her go.”

“You can’t kill me,” Hayes hissed, his face growing red as Gage threatened him.

“Actually, I can,” Gage drawled, his finger tight on the trigger. “And I fucking will if she doesn’t walk out with me.”

A muscle in Hayes’s jaw twitched as he stayed in the stare-off with Gage. Tripp was still near his bed, not interfering, and Kian stepped up, standing just behind his father.

“Did you forget who she is?” Gage asked, breaking the tense silence. “Who backs her? The Riot Crew is only one of many who will come after you. We will fuckingburyyou if you try to take her.”

Hayes ground his teeth before jerking a nod to Nick, who hesitantly released my arm. I tore away from him, not stopping until I was behind Gage.

“Try that again, and I’ll kill you myself,” I said, venom sinking into my voice. “Even if you’re working with the Disciples, we will ruin you.”

“Go back to your room,” Gage told me under his breath, his eyes not leaving Hayes. “I’ll follow in a minute.”

He wanted to make sure Hayes didn’t try to come after me again. I hesitated, not wanting to leave him, but he had it under control. I didn’t waste another second, and the guys moved farther into the hall to give me some space to leave the room. Hyde and one of my other guys flanked me as I strode away.

My heart was still hammering as I pushed the exit door, stepping into the warm sun. Hyde let out a surprised yell when someone shoved him away, and I tensed until I realized it was Jace. His eyes trailed over me for a moment, as if making sure I was okay, before he threw an arm over my shoulders, leading me back to our dorm building.

“What are you doing here?” I asked, wondering how both he and Gage had known where I was.

“Gage called,” Jace explained, not slowing his pace. “He wanted backup in case things went south. But I didn’t want Hayes to see me unless it got bad, since we have a truce and all.”

My eyes widened as I twisted in his hold to look at him. “Gage called you? For help?”

He chuckled, squeezing me tighter. “Believe me, I about fell over from shock too.”

“Thank you,” I muttered, falling serious when I thought about Nick and Hayes.

“What did they want?” he asked.
