“Tell me, mate,” Jarum asked. “What do you think of my sample?”

Fuck, if this was just a taste, I was going to get down on my knees and beg him for the main course the second we got out of this pod.

His smug grin told me I didn’t need to speak. He knew he’d given me an amazing orgasm.

“We need to get you dressed,” he said. “We’ve arrived.”

Oh, jeez. Was someone going to stride up to the vehicle and see me sprawled out on his lap, my body glistening with satisfaction?

I grabbed my panties, blinking at the scraps of fabric. The shreds wouldn’t cover any part of my butt.

“I apologize,” he said. “I’ll replace those.”

“It’s okay.” Hauling my pants on, I wiggled around, hiking them up over my hips and leaning back on his chest to fasten them.

The pod hatch opened, and the smell of flowers drifted through the cool air. Muted voices echoed around us, plus the sound of many people stomping this way and that.

I poked my head over the top of the pod and gasped as I took in the city sprawled in the enormous valley below.

Numerous houses peppered the base that must be miles across. The buildings gleamed gold and silver, as if they’d been constructed from slabs of precious metal. Larger buildings had been built on small hills surrounded by grassy slopes and gardens full of brightly colored flowers.

A few castle-like structures had been constructed on the slopes on the outer walls of the valley, and based on their size, the wealthy or even royalty must live there. Orcs were ruled by a monarchy who mostly performed ceremonial duties. An elected government took care of the day-to-day business.

“This is your home city?” I whispered.

“My old home city,” he said. “I plan to live on the surface with you. We won’t return here except for functions or future tournaments, though Brogis’s team is talking about recruiting humans and setting up matches in our town.”

“Wow, really? That would be cool.” I couldn’t wait to meet his parents and brother. The warm glow from my orgasm—from Jarum’s love—rode within me. Nothing and no one could ruin this now.

“Let’s get out, and I’ll take you to the house I grew up in and get you settled. Just to warn you, my parents are part of the aristocracy, and my mom’s quite proud of it.” He climbed from the pod and lifted me out, placing me on the grass-covered ground.

I was a simple person. After my parents died, my aunt raised me, which was why I was so close to my cousin.

My teaching salary didn’t pay much, though I worked hard.

“I didn’t bring much formal clothing.” None, actually, only a cocktail dress and some cute shoes. I assumed I’d dress casually the rest of the time.

“No worries.” He lifted Diesel out and handed him to me. My pup licked my chin and squirmed, eager to get down and do his business in the grass. I kept a tight hold of his leash, worried he’d take off after one of the orcs passing by. When he strained, I walked with him over to a tall tree. He lifted his leg and marked it, then scratched the ground with his back legs, releasing a happy woof.

Wait, a tree and grass?

As Jarum removed our bags from the back compartment, I peered up, taking in the dark purple leafy canopy. The stone ceiling hundreds of feet above us was peppered with teal-colored lights that shone bluish white, lighting up the valley.

“The lights are a plant,” Jarum said, joining me. “We foster them when we open a new area, carefully planting them in cracks in the stone. They live off the moisture in the air around us.”

“No electricity needed.”

“Oh, we have something similar, generated by the movement of rivers deep below this level.”

“Your world is amazing.”

“It is.” He held out his hand. “Are you ready to meet my family?”

“What can I expect?” We walked down a wide gravel path with Diesel scampering beside us. “You’re not, like, the heir to the throne or anything like that, are you?”

“Not even close. It’s just me, my brother, and my parents. A few other relatives, but we’re not very close.” Pausing on the path, he stroked my face and teased my long hair through his fingers, smoothing it. “As you can see, woods surround the valley.”

“You’re going to take me into the woods once I’ve completed my first test,” I breathed, excitement tingling through me. “Haul me away.”
