I didn't have time to question him before he dipped his head and pressed his lips against mine. It wasn’t a gentle kiss, either. It was intense and possessive, muddling my brain and leaving me breathless. When he moved to pull away, I released one hand from the documents, grabbing onto his suit jacket like a lifeline. I didn’t want him to leave me alone with Alan.

Like he could read my mind, he tucked me into his side before lifting his gaze to Alan. I wanted to hide against Grayson’s chest, but when I ducked my chin, Grayson’s grip tightened on my hip. I looked up at him and he raised an eyebrow at me, silently telling me to keep my head up.

“M-Mr Andrews. I– What– What are you doing here?”

Grayson swung his gaze back to Alan. “I own the company. Do I know you?”

Alan flushed, stumbling over his words. “I, uh… We’ve met before. In the cafeteria. Alan Richardson. I’m a project manager.”

Grayson gave him an unimpressed look before turning back to me. “Did you drop off the documents like I asked?”

He hadn’t asked me to drop anything off, but I saw the out he was giving me and took it without question, bobbing my head.

“Yes, I delivered it a few minutes ago. I was just heading back upstairs.”

“Good. Let’s get going. I don’t want to stay late tonight. We’ve got better things to do.”

It was suggestive and borderline inappropriate, and it felt really good that Alan looked so shellshocked. He gaped at us, standing frozen to the side. Grayson ignored him, like he couldn’t be bothered to speak with someone like Alan. It bolstered me a little and when I released Grayson’s jacket, he didn’t step away, instead leading me back to the elevator with a hand on my lower back. He kept me against his side until the elevator door slipped shut behind us and we were finally out of sight.

Grayson stepped away, putting his hands behind his back. “I apologize, Julie. That was inappropriate. I should never have–”

My body moved without my permission, and I threw myself at him. The documents dropped to the floor, scattering everywhere. It sounded like he wanted to take that kiss back and it meant so much to me, I couldn’t let that happen. I gripped his jacket, lifting onto my toes, and thankfully, he met me halfway. One hand fisted into my hair, giving him leverage to pull my head back and plunder my mouth. The other wrapped around my waist, yanking me against him. I could feel everything, every hard inch of him. The tight muscles of his stomach, his arms, even the thick ridge of his erection pressed against my belly. I wanted to touch every inch of him, but he was controlling my body now, shoving me up against the elevator wall, and I felt myself surrender to his will.

When my body went pliant, he growled low, shoving me tighter against the wall with his hips grinding against mine. It was heady, this feral side of him. My body lit up in response, my nipples tightening in my bra and dampness soaking my panties.

The elevator beeped, signaling our arrival to the floor, and we jumped apart, gasping. I shot him a wild-eyed look, surprised to see the same expression on his face. The doors slid open, and I dropped to my hands and knees, scooping up the papers I’d dropped. Grayson knelt beside me, silently helping me pick them up. When a third set of hands joined us, I had to school my face against a grimace.

“What happened?”

My head whipped up at Bennett’s quiet question. I was too embarrassed to look up before. There was no one else coming onto the elevator, just us three, and the relief was instantaneous and overwhelming. I sagged, leaning my forehead against his shoulder.

“Grayson?”

Grayson was quiet for a second before answering his friend. “I found her ex berating her downstairs. She’s upset.”

He and Bennett carefully helped me to my feet and Grayson took the papers I’d been gathering out of my hand, piling them with his and Bennett’s. Bennett hovered close, worry written on his face, but my eyes moved to Grayson. Whatever just happened wasn’t what I think either of us expected, and I didn’t know what to say. I was a little worried he’d pretend it didn’t happen. I knew he valued our work relationship over anything else.

He noticed my scrutiny and smiled softly. “Go with Bennett. You deserve a minute to relax. We’ll talk later, okay?”

Nodding, I let Bennett lead me to the breakroom. I didn’t know what came next with Grayson, or what the guys would say, but that kiss had changed things. It made me want something I wasn’t sure I could have. Grayson was my boss, yes, but he was also the most stable thing in my life, and I needed that. I needed him. Would this make things awkward? Or could things possibly get better than they already are right now?

“You sure you’re okay?”

Bennett had asked several times already, and I had to work not to laugh at this point. While my run-in with Alan had been painful, Grayson basically wiped the memory from my mind with that kiss. I wasn’t about to fall apart anymore. But no matter how many times I said it, Bennett didn’t believe me. I sighed, cupping his cheeks and leaning my forehead against his.

“I’m fine. I promise. I might… I might postpone our group date for a night, though. Today has been… crazy. I could use a minute to breathe.”

He didn’t look disappointed, nodding with a frown. “Maybe that’s a good idea. I’m sorry about what happened earlier. I didn’t know–”

I huffed out a laugh. “Me neither. Luka said he’d keep watch so I could make you feel better. I should’ve listened to my gut and told him no. I was worried we’d get caught.”

He flushed. “I, uh… was talking about running into your ex. We were caught?”

My mouth dropped. I forgot he left the room before Grayson came to get me. He had no idea.

“Oh… um, yes. By Grayson. He came to get me after the investors left. He said he’s not mad, but–”
