“Just stay out of my way.” She said as she glared at me.
“I don’t think any of us would come near you with a ten-foot pole, sweet cheeks,” Connor said with so much hate that I flinched.
I watched Clara walk away as Liam sighed.
“Sorry. I didn’t get word until just before she arrived who was coming. I don’t know the full details but I am aware of your past. I will keep her out of your way.” I nodded at Liam as he watched the body being taken away.
“I’ll let the ladies know they can come over. I will be a bit late for dinner tonight while I get this paperwork sorted. This was left for you on the body.” He handed me a note that was smeared in blood.
Hell’s gates have opened. It is time for a new ruler of Sinners. You can either step down or join the others in the pits of hell.
“Jesus. Are these guys for real? Who says things like that?” Connor said as he read over my shoulder.
“They are children playing with grownups. We don’t know the names of the key players here, yet. But we will.” Liam said before he walked away.
“Well. A great spooky start to the holiday.” Kingston said as he clapped his hands together.
“Let's get this party started. I want to eat,” he said as Kenji rolled his eyes as they went to their car to unload the decorations.
Elsie kissed my cheek and hugged me.
“Are you okay?” She asked and I took a deep breath, looking at Alfie who was staring at her with pride.
“Yes,mo chuisle. I have you here. I am fine.” I said, still feeling a little shaken as Connor laughed, Declan draping an arm over his shoulder.
“You should have seen our little queen. She threatened to rip out her heart. It was fucking hot as hell.” Connor said as Alfie agreed.
“Mmm. I always love when the walls come down and you let your inner psycho out to play.” He kissed her deeply, her arms still wrapped around me.
“I will thank you later, little vixen. The idea of you gifting me with her heart has me all kinds of turned on.” I whispered in her ear.
“I think it calls for a group bonding time. Maybe we can convince Serena to take Aisling for a few hours.” Declan said and Elsie’s cheeks heated.
“I like the sound of that.” She said as Kingston whistled at us.
“Hey. Keep it in your pants you lot. Let's get this done so we can eat!” We sighed as Connor hurried over with mock horror, shouting about the spiderwebs in the wrong spot.
I watched my family as they laughed and felt myself relax. The past may have come back to haunt me, but the present was too beautiful to let the past back in.
Part Two- Mendez

Serena – two weeks earlier
“Yourlevelsarelookinggreat, and you are about to ovulate.” Dr. Applegate said as Elsie gripped my hand.
“Well, we know what you will be doing for the next few days,” Elsie said with a wag of her eyebrows.
“The receptionist will give you the dates and times for when we will need you to come back in and do the test. If you don’t have any questions, you are free to go.” I shook my head and grabbed my bag, Elsie following me out. I waited at the reception desk for the appointment details.
“How are you feeling?” Elsie asked, knowing that this was the second time we were trying this.
“Nervous. Apprehensive. Hopeful.” I said with a sigh. We had gone into last month’s cycle with so much enthusiasm and it had been a crushing defeat when the pregnancy tests came back negative.
“Hey. You’ve got this. I have a good feeling about it.” Elsie encouraged.
“So your next appointment will be on the thirty-first of October.” The woman at the desk said and Elsie made a spooky sound.
