Iglancedatmyphone, seeing a missed call from Mikhail, and sighed.

They were worried about me. I hadn’t checked in like I was supposed to, but I didn’t feel like talking to them yet.

I couldn’t believe I had found her after all these years, and I was still unsure what to think about the circumstances around finding her and what happened after.

I also wasn’t sure how I felt about using her the way we had decided. But I had to put my brothers first. Had to put the family I chose before anyone else, and she wasn’t family.

No. This was a distraction, I had to stop thinking about her. That wasn’t why I was here. I watched the station, waiting until Clara left, looking over her shoulder before she got into the car.

The woman had tried to cover her trail, but we had been watching her for the past few months and knew the truth.

She was going to lead me right to him the stupid bitch. My orders weren’t to take her out though, it was the man I was hunting.

I noticed Liam enter the building as Clara pulled away and sighed. The families were next on my list to see, but first I had to get what I was here for.

Putting the car into drive, I followed Clara through the back streets until we arrived at a run-down house in the suburbs.

I parked a few houses down, switched my lights off, and waited as she knocked on the door. The light illuminated the face of the man answering and I smiled.

Poison. We had been searching for the little shit for weeks now, we needed his cooperation to bring the other kids he had recruited in line. The leverage was key to our plans. I pulled out my phone and dialed Katerina.

“Do you have him?” she asked on the second ring.

“Yes. I’ll send the address now. Want me to go in and restrain him?” I said and she hummed.

“No. We need someone with a more delicate touch on this one. I have people en route now. What about Clara?” She asked and I flexed my hand on the steering wheel.

“Alive and well,” I said as I watched her enter the house.

“Good. I’ll send the information to Officer Walker now. I need you to pay a visit to the Madden home and explain the situation to them. Give them a warning too.” She said before she hung up.

“Always a pleasure,” I muttered to myself before turning the car on and heading towards Sinclair Boulevard.

My phone lit up again with Mikhail’s name and I sighed.

“I’m fine,” I said as I answered.

“Fuck you. Why didn’t you call?” He said as I ran my hand through my hair.

“I found them. Katerina already knows and is sending in a collection crew.” I replied, hoping he would drop it.

“I know. That doesn’t explain why you didn’t call last night. What happened?” He pushed and I ground my teeth.

“I ran into someone. Someone from my past. She is the key to all of this. The key to getting to the head.” I said and Mikhail whistled.

“Your past? As in deep past?” He said softer, knowing where I spent my childhood.

“Yes.” I offered as I pulled into the Madden driveway.

“I have to go.” I hung up before he could say anything, got out, and rang the doorbell.

The one called Connor answered the door, instantly tense when he saw me, his fingers twitching near his side, though I knew he was unarmed.

“Who are you?” He said, eyes landing on the gun at my hip.

“I work for Katerina,” I said as an explanation. Connor sighed and opened the door as a silent invitation.

“Benny. Company.” He called and I waited until the entire family had gathered, as they looked me over like I was a snake ready to strike. Good. They should be cautious.
