I recognize a few of our men, making me feel sicker.
Dad orders, "Go through everything. If there's anything we can salvage, pull it out."
I glance around at the heap of charred materials, knowing there can't be much. I don't know how the O'Learys did it, but they blew everything to shreds.
My brothers and I get out of the SUV. We dig through ash-covered rubble and toss pieces of metal into a pile we designated as trash. It grows bigger and bigger, and the circle just gets wider.
I've not found anything for over four hours, then the hairs on my neck rise. Something gold barely glimmers through the ash, and I dig deeper, then pull out two wedding bands.
I dust them off and stare. "It can't be," I mutter as I examine them closer.
My gut dives. One looks like the band that once sat around my finger, and the other resembles the one that was around Maeve's. I dust the inside off on my shirt, and there's no questioning it anymore.
It's Malachy and Maeve's mum's rings. The engraving, mo grá is on one and mo chroí on the other.
My insides shake with anger. How did these get here?
"What is that?" Aidan questions.
"Did ya find something?" Dad calls out.
I turn and open my palm, revealing the rings. I announce, "These are Maeve's parents' wedding bands."
Brody asks, "How did they get here?"
"Aye. How is that possible?" Devin questions.
I state, "They were in my safe."
"Are ya sure?" Dad asks.
My gut drops. "Aye. I put them there myself. They mean everything to Maeve."
"Then how did they get here?" Aidan asks in an angrier voice.
I stare at my brothers and dad, and a chill runs down my spine.
Dad snarls, "We must have a traitor in the house."
"The women are there," I blurt out.
Brody picks up his phone and makes a call. He orders, "Alaina, go to the security tapes. Make sure all the women are with ya and the babies. We have a traitor in the house."
She says something on the other line.
He replies, "Maeve's parents' wedding bands were in Tynan's safe. He just found them in the rubble."
Silence fills the air.
Brody demands, "Aye. Let me know when ya have the others with ya." He hangs up.
A few moments pass.
His phone vibrates. He glances at the screen and declares, "The women and babies are in Alaina's office with her."
"Safe?" Devin frets.
Brody answers, "Aye. Alaina's looking at the tapes now. Her office is secure, so ya don't need to worry. No one can touch them."
