He grins. "Aye."

"What else, then?"

He continues, "The moment I met ya, I knew ya had balls bigger than any man I ever met."

I laugh again. "Are ya for real right now?"

"Aye. I don't lie about big balls."

I laugh harder.

His face falls again. He says, "But you're also smart, princess."

I once again assert, "I'm glad ya think so. But lots of women are smart."

He shakes his head. "Not like ya. You've got street smarts. But that's not all."

I wait.

"Ya challenge me, and I always needed ya without even realizing it."

"How?" I ask, my heart soaring higher with every statement he makes.

He shrugs. "I can't explain it. I just did, and now there's no way I could ever live without ya. You've changed me. I'm a better man because of ya."

I blink hard and admit, "Everything good in my life is because of ya."

He claims, "No. Everything good in our life is because of us. Because we're together."

I smile. My butterflies kick up again. I confess, "I have a secret to tell ya."

His lips twitch. "What's that, sunshine?"

I blurt out, "I haven't gotten my period."

He opens his mouth, shuts it, then says, "Are you…"

"Yeah, I am. You're going to be a daddy," I declare, and hope he's happy, but I really shouldn't. He already told me he wanted to be a dad.

His face lights up with excitement, and more relief hits me, which is silly. He booms, "You're pregnant?"

I nod, laughing.

He picks me up and hugs me tight, declaring, "You're giving me everything I've ever wanted, baby girl."

"I am?"

He sets me back on the floor and cups my cheeks. "Ya are. And I promise I'll be the best husband and father you've ever seen."

I don't have to question it. I think about my da and push the wave of sadness away. I'm tired of thinking about how he sold me like I was a piece of meat. All I want to do is concentrate on my future with Tynan and our baby. I reach behind him and lace my fingers around his neck.

I assert, "I know ya will be. You already are the best husband, and I promise you the same. I'll be the best wife and best mom I can be."

Mischief fills his expression. He waggles his eyebrows and states, "I think it's time we played truth or dare."

My flutters intensify. I innocently ask, "Oh?"

He points to my photo. "Aye. I dare ya to go put that outfit on."
