I rolled my eyes even though he couldn’t see. “Leave it to you to skip a few important steps.”

He pulled away, his face turning serious, “Okay then. I must make an honest woman out of you before our baby girl arrives….”

He hopped off the bed and got down on one knee.

“Don’t you dare propose like this, or I swear you will regret it, Nathaniel. I’m in the wrong kind of gown,” I pouted. “Propose to me when we are out of here. Not when I’m looking like I just fought through a war.”

“You look beautiful.”

“Don’t lie.”

“I’m serious. Baby girl has you glowing, baby.”

I tilted my head to the side. “You think it’s a girl?”

He nodded.

“I think it’s a boy.” I patted my still-flat belly. “But regardless of what it is, I just want him or her to be happy and feel all the love in the world when they arrive.”

“They will,” he returned to sit beside me, “I can’t believe we made a baby.”

“I can’t believe I let you put a baby inside me.”

He softly pressed his lips to mine, saying, “And I may just do it again a few more times after that.”

“How many times are we talking here?”

“Well…”

Taking a chance and making a bold decision changed the course of my life. I don't know what would have happened if I had stayed in Braven Bay. But I took a risk, and it paid off. I am grateful for the new opportunities in my life, such as marrying my future husband and welcoming our beautiful baby boy or girl very soon. And quite possibly the white picket fence I had always pictured.
