It’ll happen one day… I hope.

‘Hey, earth to Taylor?’ Mikey says, gently nudging me in the ribs. ‘I think Xander might be wondering where you are?’

‘Ooops!’ I giggle, breaking out of my thoughts and hearing the sound of Xander calling for me again. ‘I should run. The last thing I want is a warning during my first week!’

‘Ha!’ Mikey laughs. ‘You’re good. Xander’s been impressed with you. We all have to be honest. He probably just wants to talk to you about your hours for next week or something. I think Xander’s asking all of the guys about potentially doing some overtime or something. That’s what I heard anyway.’

‘Overtime? Sign me up right now!’ I smile, the thought of earning some extra bucks sounding very much like something I’d be interested in. ‘Okay, catch you later.’

‘Yup, in a bit!’ Mikey replies, finishing off his iced coffee and walking back toward the other members of the crew as they set about getting some new scaffolding up.

With my mind full of thoughts of extra money, overtime, and hopefully some fun times ahead, I make my way up to see Xander.

But if I think that this is going to be as simple as one-two-three, then I might just have another thing coming…

* * *

The sun might be hot, and my back might be covered in sweat, but something tells me that things are about to get a whole heap hotter.

As I step into the makeshift drinks and rest gazebo, I not only see Xander waiting to talk to me, but I also clap my eyes on Harrison Harlow too…

‘Oh, sorry, I’ll come back,’ I say, thinking that I’m interrupting something.

Harrison is as immaculately dressed as he was last time. Wearing a well fitted navy t-shirt tucked into some light linen trousers, Harrison looks like a million dollars.

It might just be me, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen such a well-dressed property developer.

But it’s not just his clothes that make Harrison stand out.

Harrison’s perfectly maintained hair and face look just as on point as they did last time I saw him. There’s a glint in Harrison’s eyes too, one that excites and scares me in equal measure.

‘No, you stay,’ Xander says, a smile on his face. ‘Mr. Harlow wanted to discuss something with you. If you need anything, I’ll be helping out the guys.’

‘W-w-w-wait, what?’ I say, helplessly searching for words as Xander walks out of the gazebo.

But before I can get Xander’s attention, he’s long gone.

And now it’s just me and Harrison Harlow.

I honestly have no idea what’s going on, but all I do know is that I’m suddenly not feeling so big and tough. Despite my height and physique, I feel all small and nervous around what is clearly a man who is used to being the dominant presence.

‘I, um, what can I help-’

‘Quiet,’ Harrison says, walking toward the drinks table and picking up a bottle of chilled water from the cool box. ‘Here, you look all hot and bothered. Drink some of this.’

‘Thank you, Mr. Harlow,’ I say, surprising myself at just how submissive I sound.

‘Please, call me Harrison,’ Harrison replies, a kind smile on his face. ‘I think we should take a seat and talk.’

Once more, I find myself unquestioningly going along with what Harrison says. Not one single iota of doubt is in my mind as I take a seat next to Harrison and watch on as he unscrews the cap on the water bottle and hands it to me.

‘Take a small sip first, then a second one,’ Harrison says, his voice firm but with the kind of care that makes me want to trust him. ‘The best way to beat a sweat is to pace yourself.’

‘Right, I remember my teacher telling me that at school once,’ I reply, before taking a small sip as instructed.

‘And did you listen to him?’ Harrison says, arching his eyebrow.

‘N-n-no, I didn’t,’ I say, my cheeks flushing red with embarrassment.
