‘Mmmm, this juice is delicious,’ I say, finishing off the OJ with one final gulp. ‘Or it certainlywasdelicious! But, Daddy… what was the surprise you told me about before I fell asleep?
‘You remembered,’ Harrison says, his voice gentle and full of sweetness all of a sudden. ‘Well there’s no time like the present. Come with me.’
I do as Daddy says and walk with Harrison toward a pale blue storage box over by the window.
‘Now, there’s no pressure,’ Harrison says as he gets down onto his knees and opens the box. ‘I just thought that youmightlike this…’
I watch with wide eyes as Harrison reaches inside the box – and my emotions are in danger of spilling over completely as Harrison turns and hands me a brown bear stuffie wearing faded denim dungarees.
‘Remind you of anyone?’ Harrison says, a big smile on his face. ‘He was mine when I was a boy. I loved him a lot, but I never named him. I just called him Blue. You can play with him. And you can have him forever. It’s totally up to you though.’
‘I love him!’ I say, my eyes filling with tears as I have an instant Forever Love connection with my new stuffie. ‘Hello Blue. We’re going to be best friends.
With that, I give Blue a big squeeze and I’m soon joined by my Daddy.
I think together the three of us are going to be one hell of a team.
