“I’ve never had a boyfriend before,” I reminded him. “So, I’m not exactly sure what the rules are.”

Lars glanced over at me. “The rules?”

“Yeah, like…do we still hang out with our friends during our breaks? What about lunch? You know, things like that.”

“Did you learn nothing from Talon and Kenzlee?”

“That’s different,” I drawled out. “He’s obsessed with her.”

Lars let out a hearty laugh, and it sounded genuine and beautiful. “You’re killing me, Edie.”

“Meaning?” I narrowed my eyes at him. “And don’t laugh at me. It’s not appreciated.”

“I’m not laughing at you,” he lied.

“Yes, you are.”

“No, I’m not,” he argued. “I just think that it’s funny that you don’t think that I’m obsessed with you.”

“Not like Talon is with Kenz,” I huffed under my breath.

Lars grinned at me. “Okay, that’s true,” he conceded. “However, don’t underestimate just how badly I miss you when I’m not with you, Edie.”

“Meaning?”

“Meaning that we will be spending our breaks and lunch together, and if something comes up, then we’ll deal with it,” he answered. “Just like you’ve never had a boyfriend before, I’ve never had a girlfriend, so we’ll work on navigating this thing together.”

Jokingly, I said, “Does this mean that you’ll be walking me to class?”

Lars shot me a look. “Don’t test me, Edie.”

“Wait? What?” I turned to look at him. “Meaning that youaregoing to walk me to class?”

“You’re out of your mind if you thought that I wouldn’t be,” he snorted.

“Maybe I’m out of my mind for just dating you,” I grumbled, and the jerk laughed again.

Lars~

As far as I was concerned, Edie was making this a bigger deal than it actually was. While it was true that neither of us were experienced at this kind of thing, it wasn’t exactly rocket science. It was mostly just manners and consideration, and now that we were doing this, I felt better about her running around unattended. No guy in his right mind would even dream of flirting with her now.

I’d fucking kill him.

When I pulled into the school parking lot, the place was crawling with students, business as usual. I also knew that no one would bat an eyelash at me opening Edie’s car door. From the second that Talon had started dating Kenzlee, none of the girls had ever had to open their own doors or carry their own stuff. My manners where Edie was concerned weren’t enough to raise any eyebrows.

Helping her out of the car, I grabbed her hand in mine, and that was another thing that wasn’t anything new. Talon, Hunter, and I had spent a lot of last year dragging the girls around all over the place, something that Alexandria had absolutely hated, but we hadn’t cared. Yeah, she had me and Hunter saved into her phone as Kidnapper #1 and Kidnapper #2, but the actual definition of kidnapping was always open to interpretation if you asked me.

Pulling her behind me, we weren’t half-way across campus when Calliope, Julie Banks, and Tiffany Borelli stopped in front of us. I just eyed each girl as Edie said her hellos. I also didn’t let go of Edie’s hand, something that Tiffany noticed.

“You can let go of her hand now, Lars,” she drawled out sarcastically. “We’re not going to sacrifice her to a cult or anything like that.”

“How do I know that?” I retorted just to be an ass. “I don’t know any of you well enough to say that you won’t.”

Edie tugged on my hand. “Lars, knock it off.”

I looked down at her. “Well, it’s true.”
