“Mom!” I shrieked.

“Hush, honey,” she replied easily as she kept staring at Lars.

A very red-faced Lars.

“Uhm…coincidentally, I’m concerned with the same thing, Mrs. Draven,” Lars drawled out, probably panicking because he’d never had to discuss his intentions with a parent before.

“Lars-”

“Mrs. Finley, with all due respect, this conversation isn’t necessary,” he said, interrupting whatever Mom had been about to say. “I’d never do anything to hurt Edie.”

“Only abstinence is guaranteed, Lars,” she reminded him.

“While that’s true, if Edie did get pregnant, it’s not anything that we wouldn’t be able to handle,” he assured her, and my chest felt tight with how they were discussing such a personal thing.

“Mom, I’m not going to get pregnant,” I said, hoping to reassure her.

She looked over at me. “If everything works out like it’s supposed to, then you won’t. However, life doesn’t always work out like wethinkit’s supposed to.”

“Mom, even if Lars’ swimmers one-up my birth control-”

“Really?” Lars deadpanned.

“-we would still have choices in the matter,” I pointed out. “I think you need to relax a bit.”

“I just want to know what this is, honey,” she replied.

“It’s forever,” Lars answered, causing both of us to look his way. “Me and Edie? We’re forever, Mrs. Draven.” He eyed her seriously, and I couldn’t help but believe him. “I’m not sure what Talon’s told you, or Edie for that matter, but me and her are forever. Wewillbe forever. No matter what I have to do, no matter what sacrifices I have to make, Edie and I are forever.”

“And you’re certain?” she asked, still questioning him.

“I’m more certain about Edie than I am my own name,” he told her, and I wasn’t sure how or why, but his words had me feeling like I was just as certain about him. “I know that we’re only eighteen, but that doesn’t mean that we don’t know what we feel, and I feel it all when it comes to Edie.”

Mom gave him a terse nod. “I hope you’re right, Lars.”

His chin went up. “Iamright, Mrs. Draven.”

She gave him another nod. “Well, I guess we can enjoy dinner now.”

“Are you sure?” I drawled out. “We still have time for you to embarrass me some more.”

Mom grinned. “I think I’m good.”

Lars chuckled before they both returned to their dinner, and even though I’d never say anything in front of Lars, I was secretly glad that Mom had grilled him. It was one thing to tell me that we were forever, but it was quite another to tell Mom the same thing.

Chapter 25

The moments that mean forever.

Edie~

“Fuck, baby,” Lars hissed in my ear, his voice a gritty sound that sent tremors down my spine.

My hands fisted in the sheets beneath me, my face pressed against the mattress. “Don’t stop…”

I felt Lars’ hips push up against my ass again, and I moaned at how good it felt. To his credit, he hadn’t pounced on me the second that Mom had left for work. Instead, we had cleaned up dinner, had done our homework, and had even scrolled through some community volunteer programs together. Though I had slowed down considerably, I actually enjoyed volunteering in the community.

It hadn’t been until I had announced that I needed a shower that Lars had gotten other ideas. The guy had practically begged me to let him go down on me before showering. Even though I’d been onboard with his suggestion, Lars had made sure not to skimp on warming me up.
