“I wasn’t,” he snorted. “I was a jerk, but then you came along, determined to make me a good guy.”

“Uh…that’s not the way that I remember it,” I drawled out.

“That’s the version that I’m telling our kids, so you better get onboard with it,” he replied, not skipping a beat.

“So, we’re talking children already?” I asked as I rolled onto my back again. “You’re moving awfully fast, Mr. Finley.”

Lars was silent for a bit before asking, “How do you feel about roleplaying, because I’m really liking how you just called me Mr. Finley?”

I laughed again. “Can you be serious for one second?”

“Never, baby,” he replied. “I’ll leave that shit up to Tal and Hunter. These past few weeks of fighting with seriousness have been fucking exhausting.”

“Complaining?”

“Not at all,” he chuckled. “I just prefer a happy-you to an unhappy-you.”

His words kicked off a discussion that we couldn’t put off any longer.

Lars~

Edie immediately tensed in my arms, but I had no idea what I’d said to change the vibe so dramatically. One minute, we’d been satiated and teasing each other, then the next, my girl was turning serious on me.

“What’s going on, baby?”

Edie rolled over until she was sprawled across my chest again. Her eyes were such a rare shade of blue that it was hard not to get sucked in by them. They held your attention, even if you didn’t want them to. I often wondered if that was how Talon had won all his fights back in the day. He and Edie had that same shade of eye color, something that they’d inherited from Mrs. Draven.

“We need to have a serious talk, Lars,” she stated, and my lips twitched at how authoritative she sounded, almost like she was teaching a class.

“Is that so?”

“We need a realistic plan if we end up going to separate colleges, Lars.”

That had me sitting up straighter.

“Meaning?”

Edie sat up, pulling the bed sheet up to cover her chest, which really was a shame since it was a very nice chest. In fact, if she could just walk around naked for me all the time, that’d be great. Yeah, we’d never be able to leave this room, but I was okay with that.

“Kenzlee has offered us all a chance to change our futures,” she said, and I already knew where this was going. “It’d be rude and stupid not to take that opportunity and make the most of it.”

“I agree,” I remarked carefully, eyeing her.

“When the time comes, we need to go to the colleges that are best for our futures, Lars.” I could feel my chest tighten. “While I appreciate how you’re willing to follow me after graduation, if you get accepted into a college that’s better suited for what you want to do in life, you can’t pass that up just to follow me.”

“I’m looking at Social Sciences, which can be studied at any college across the country, Edie,” I informed her.

“Yeah, but are you going to get accepted intoanycollege across the country?” she argued. “While I’ve been preparing for college all my life, you haven’t. Yeah, it’d be nice to luck out like Talon and Hunter, but what if you don’t?” Her shoulders sagged, and I hated how she was genuinely worried about our futures. “We have to discuss this like it’s a real possibility, because itis,Lars.”

“What do you want me to say, Edie? That I’ll choose my education over you?” I eyed her. “C’mon, baby.”

“No, that’s not what I’m saying at all,” she lied. “I’m saying that we can’t insult Kenzlee’s selfless gesture by not doing what’s best for our futures.”

“Edie-”

“Are we forever, Lars?” she asked, cutting me off.
