“You let him keep your car?” Calliope asked, looking confused.

“Since I decided to cut back on a lot of my extracurricular activities this year, it’s not that big of a deal for him to have my car,” I told them. “It’s easier on me. Besides, I’d rather that Lars has to pick me up and drop me off than it being the other way around.”

Julie eyed me warily. “I’d be driving my car until the wheels fell off if I had my own vehicle.”

“Since I plan on taking it with me to college, I’d rather not run it to the ground just yet.”

“That makes sense,” Calliope remarked.

Forgetting all about my car and Lars Finley, Deidra said, “I heard a rumor that Danny Mason wants to ask you out.” Calliope laughed as I let out a groan. “What?”

“I was just telling her the same thing,” Calliope informed her.

“Yeah, I’m just super popular today,” I muttered, the only girl at the table not laughing.

Lars~

Iwas annoyed, and it wasn’t often that I felt this way. For the most part, I was a pretty happy guy, not letting life stress me out too much. Sure, life wasn’t always a bed of roses, but I’d never been big on stressing out over things that I couldn’t control; there was no sense in that.

However, not only was I feeling annoyed at how Edie had casually mentioned how I didn’t need to check up on her, but I also had Dillon in my ear, telling me how he’d heard a rumor that Danny Mason was interested in Edie, and that Danny wasn’t the only guy with Edie’s name on his lips. Apparently, everyone was under the impression that she was fair game now that Talon was no longer at Lakeside.

Yeah, they were wrong.

Glancing back over at her lunch table, I couldn’t lie and say that I didn’t see her appeal. Edie Draven was a beautiful girl. She was only five-foot-one with light brown hair, these otherworldly bright blue eyes, and she was so fucking smart that she was going to change the world one day. She was brilliant, organized, driven, and was always willing to lend a hand to whoever needed it. Edie also had a body that I had no business thinking about. She was so petite that she was almost fairy-like, and if she were any other girl, I’d get off from just imagining what it’d be like to give such a petite girl such a hard fucking. Now, while I didn’t have a preference when it came to females, Edie was perfection in my eyes.

She was alsovery, very, very, veryoff-limits.

“I’m just saying, dude.” I looked back at Dillon. “Edie Draven has always been hot, Lars. Don’t tell me that you honestly believed that guys weren’t going to be after her as soon as Talon graduated.”

“You act like this school isn’t aware that I’m very willing to fight over the girl,” I replied. “And even if I weren’t, if you think that Talon Draven isn’t the type of guy to drive back here for his sister, then you and the rest of the guys in this school are stupid.”

“Relax,” he ordered, putting his hands up in mock surrender. “I’m just saying that there’s no harm in the girl finally going out on a date, Lars.”

“Depends on who the date is with, Dillon,” I fired back.

Before he could say anything more, Grant Loomis, Hector Montez, and Wes Reynolds were sitting down on the bench with us, their lunch trays clattering as they placed them on the table. While jocks might be graceful on the field, most of them were like bulls in a China shop everywhere else. Granted, when you were six-foot-two and weighed over two-hundred pounds, it was hard to be graceful.

“What’s up?” Hector greeted before shoving some chips into his mouth.

“I was just telling Finley to calm the fuck down,” Dillon laughed.

“Oohhh, someone about to get his ass kicked?” Wes asked.

I shook my head. “No.”

“He’s lying,” Dillon smirked. “He’s pissed because Danny Mason has been asking about Edie Draven.”

I flipped him off.

“Dude, if guys talking about hooking up with Edie Draven is making you murderous, then you’re going to get tired pretty quick,” Hector huffed. “While I respect that you’ve got a good knuckle game, it’s a long list of guys that are interested in going after Edie now that Talon is gone.”

“Not a problem,” I said, looking over at him. “Talon and Hunter will have no problem coming back home to pick up from where I left off if I get too tired fucking assholes up.”

Hector’s brows jumped. “Dude, you’re serious.”

“Edie is not fair game just because Talon’s gone,” I informed them all. “The girl is smarter than this entire school put together, and if you think that I’m going to allow some motherfucker to come along and ruin her future, you’re wrong.”
