Once I’m in my rental, I hit the gas and take off.

I can’t get away from Harrington, and this whole day in general, fast enough.

Hayden

Damn, what a day. Working with Addison Knight is going to be a challenge, that’s for sure.

Not that I expected anything less.

Despite our not getting along, the event itself went really well.

That’s all that matters.

I did my part, and, to her credit, Addison was completely professional with me in front of the season ticket holder and his family.

There is a silver lining too—I don’t have to see Ms. Knight outside of these special promo events, like ever.

I smile at that thought as I pull out of the player parking lot.

What a relief.

Feeling much better and far more relaxed as I drive home, I decide to take my time.

I’m not in any rush, as I have nothing planned but dinner and maybe a little TV.

At the thought of food, my stomach growls.

No surprise since it’s past dinnertime, and I never had any lunch.

If I had a different consultant, I would have suggested grabbing a quick bite in an effort to maybe get to know each other a little better.

But I know enough about Addison.

No need to ever break bread with her.

“Fuck, no way.”

I pick up some speed, and when I reach the last light before the turn into my neighborhood, I notice a beige sedan in front of me. Since the light is red, I have time to catch that it has out-of-state plates.

Hmmm, must be a rental like mine.

Come to think of it, this sedan looks remarkably similar to the car I’ve seen parked in the driveway at the house next to mine.

The light turns green, and sure enough, when we reach the entrance to the housing plan, the sedan slows to a crawl and turns.

This has to be my neighbor.

Well, it looks like I’ll finally get to see what he or she looks like.

Even though I’m directly behind the car, with the sun going down and the resulting play of shadows and lights, I can’t get a clear look at the person driving. Though from the height and slender build, I’m guessing it’s a woman.

Wonder what she looks like.

Guess I’ll find out soon enough,

We enter the cul-de-sac, and she turns into her driveway.

I pull into mine, but I don’t head into the garage. I just park outside, as does she.
