I raise my brow again, simply because I can tell it irritates the fuck out of her.

“So it’s a deal?” I ask.

“Definitely.” She nods curtly. “Deal.”

I love to push her, so I say, “Should we shake on it?”

I hold out my hand, and she instantly recoils. “Uh, no, I think a verbal agreement is good enough.”

“All right, then.”

Turning abruptly, she storms off, leaving me in the driveway, hand still out.

So much for having a good neighbor.

I have the worst one possible.

Addison

Thankfully, as the week goes by, Hayden and I only have to see each other one time for a quick autograph signing session at a sports store. It’s held in an evening and only lasts for one hour, so our interaction is minimal.

We keep it strictly business.

Back at the cul-de-sac that we sadly have to share, we do a great job of avoiding each other. I sometimes catch a glimpse of him getting out of his black Porsche Cayenne, which I assume is his personal vehicle since the rental SUV is gone, but otherwise that’s it.

There’s a lot of landscaping—shrubs, tall grasses, boulders, and the like—between our properties, so the views are limited.

I did, however, notice that the second-story deck off of my bedroom has a direct line of sight to his deck. I assume that means his house it set up like mine, but switched around, unfortunately making his deck not far from mine.

Hopefully we’ll never be out at the same time.

If I do see him out there, I’ll just go inside.

That’s an easy solution.

“Yep, it sure is,” I mutter to myself as I plop down on the comfy beige sofa in the living room.

It’s the night before the start of the regular season, so my excitement level is high. I’m about to turn on my laptop to review my work schedule for the upcoming week.

But then Kristi calls on my cell.

I set the laptop aside and pick up my phone from the coffee table.

“Hey, how are you?” I ask.

She says she’s good and that she wants to hear how I like Atlanta.

“It seems fine so far,” I say. “Though I’m still settling in.”

“What about your job?” she asks. “Is it fun? Do you love it?”

“So far I do,” I reply truthfully, because besides having to interact with Hayden, it’s great. “It’s definitely keeping me busy,” I tack on.

I fill her in on some details, but I leave out the part about me working exclusively with Harrington.

I just don’t want to bring up his name.

But then she asks me directly, “So, have you run into the jerk yet?”
