We set some quick rules, which basically are that there are no rules.

Ahh, my favorite kind of game.

The only stipulation is that the game ends when someone refuses either the question or the dare. That person loses, and the other one wins.

“Simple enough.” I jerk my chin to her. “You’re up.”

“All right.” She leans back in the corner of the sofa, tucking a large throw pillow behind her back. “Truth or dare, Mr. Harrington?”

I think it over and go with “Truth.”

She barks out a laugh. “Chicken.”

“Ha ha. Just ask your question.”

Laughing, she says, “Are you sure you’re ready?”

“Yep.”

“Okay, then. When was the last time you had sex?”

Surprised, as I wasn’t expecting that inquiry, I blurt out, “Shit, woman. You get right to it, don’t you?”

Shrugging, she says, “I guess I do. So are you going to answer the question or not?”

“I am.” I sigh. “The answer is that it was a few months ago with Kristi.”

“Really?” She seems shocked. “There’s been no one since her? No puck bunnies on the road?”

I snort. “No. Contrary to popular belief, it’s not like we have time for playing around on the road. I mean, maybe some teams do, but we keep a pretty tight schedule. On top of that, this is a good group of guys. Most of us are focused on hockey when we’re traveling.”

“That’s good to know,” Addison replies. “Apart from a hundred other potential problems, there are just too many diseases out there.”

“There are,” I agree somberly. “Not that I was ever as out of control as the rumors have portrayed me as being, but I’ve had my moments. In any case, I’ve been careful and lucky too. All of the teams I’ve played on have always required full physicals before the start of every season. That means taking every test imaginable. The good news is I know I’m clean and healthy in that regard.”

“Yeah,” she adds, “me too. I’ve never gone buck-wild crazy out there, either, but I’ve still always asked my doctor to run those kinds of tests. For the record—” Her eyes meet mine meaningfully. “—I’m good too.”

Noted, I think but don’t say out loud.

Come to think of it, I don’t know why we’re volunteering these kinds of facts. I mean, it’s not like we’re planning on sleeping with each other. Right?

Or are we?

Maybe we are, since we are divulging and so interested in such personal information.

Then again, it is Truth or Dare.

Yeah, it is.

That’s why I ask, “What about you, Addison? When’s the last time you got laid?”

Scrunching up her cute, pert little nose, she says, “Ugh, I hate that term. But in response to the question, it was last winter. I was dating a guy in Chicago for a few months. It obviously didn’t work out, though.”

“I’m sorry.”

“No.” She waves her hand. “It’s no big deal.”

An inexplicable wave of jealousy comes over me. And I’m totally not sorry. I hate that dude. I’m glad it was “no big deal,” but, like when Arden said maybe he should ask Addison out, I hate the idea of another man touching her.
