And I know why.

I checked my calendar on my phone and just about fainted when I counted out that I was eight weeks late.

Eight. Fucking. Weeks.

In the past, you could set a clock by my period, except for when I’m in times of stress. Taking the SAT’s? Three weeks late. Graduating and moving away from my parents? Two weeks late. Moving back home and adjusting to life with mom and dad again? Five weeks late.

Moving to the city that never sleeps, starting a new job, knowing absolutely no one and having a one-night stand? Eight weeks late seemed reasonable.

Until I began adding up the amount of times I’ve thrown up, the way coffee smells and reliving the incredible sex I had with a complete stranger?

I’m not just late.

I’m pregnant.

And Eli is the father.

“Hey,girl! Are you ready? You look hot!” Rose and I meet outside my apartment and are taking the subway together to the arena. She hands me a jersey. “You can’t go to a game without one!”

ZAGARI is written across the back. “I love it, thank you!” I say as I throw it on over the shirt I’m wearing. I opted for leggings and sneakers. It’s basic, but I’m comfortable.

“Come on, I don’t want to be late. Erin and Heather are meeting us in the lobby. Luke got me four tickets, so I asked them to join us.”

“Great! I like them a lot. They’ve been super sweet to me.”

We ride the subway, and my mind spins the entire time. After coming to the conclusion I knew was true, I ran to the supermarket and grabbed three tests. I know you’re supposed to test in the morning, but I couldn’t wait a second longer before taking them.

The very first test I took came up positive. Immediately.

So, yep. I’m pregnant. Like, super pregnant. Like, I didn’t even have to wait three minutes. That damn stick turned pink the moment I began peeing on it.

And now I’m about to see the guy I had a one-night stand with, who then became the father of my baby, but doesn’t know he’s the father of my baby.

Tonight will be interesting for sure.

We meet the girls, grab some snacks and beer, soda for me and head inside to our seats.

I’ve never been to a hockey game before. Walking in is overwhelming, yet amazing. I moved from a small, no-name town to the middle of New York City and it feels surreal. The sights, the sounds, the smells. I’m in love with being here. The rink is cold, of course, so I’m glad I have the extra layer of a jersey. We follow Rose down to our seats, which are right at the glass, behind the home bench.

“Your brother doesn’t mess around, does he?”

“He’s the best on the team. They better give him the best seats!”

We laugh. “She’s so modest, right?”

“Hey, I’ve done some research since finding out her true identity. Luke Zagari is a household name. She’s right to say he’s the best!”

“What do you think? Is he going to fight with Blake tonight?” Heather asks, then makes Rose turn around. GETZ is written across her back.

“OH!” I gasp. “You didn’t?!”

Rose just laughs. “I love to taunt my brother. He should know that by now.”

“Do we need to switch jerseys?” I ask.

“You leave that on. As long as you don’t wear a STONE jersey, we’ll be just fine.” She winks, but I know she is far from kidding. She hates the guy.
