He laughed, and his cheeks turned red. “I have. And that does sound good. Let’s get two.”

Grant chose a small table near the front windows. The window was partly covered in snow and ice, so it gave us the illusion of privacy while being able to see the beautiful holiday lights of the other storefronts on the square.

Grant leaned across the table so we were even closer. “I was so pleased when I submitted your flowery scent after the ball and it was your name that popped up. What are the chances?”

“Yeah, I was honestly surprised to get the notification from CEDAR. I don’t remember dancing with you at the ball.”

“Oh. We didn’t. I didn’t dance with anyone. Just strolled around, gathered scents, and submitted them.”

“How… methodical.” I was surprised. It didn’t occur to me that you didn’t actually have to dance at the ball, that it wasn’t specifically required.

“Thank you.” He seemed to take my comment as a compliment, and I guessed it was. “You look beautiful tonight, by the way. I meant to say that as soon as I saw you.”

“Well, thank you,” I replied. “It’s been fun to get dressed for these courting dates.”

Tonight was my most casual outfit so far, dark skinny jeans, a soft pink sweater, and my boots, but I figured it would be appropriate for the coffeehouse. I was pleased the alpha agreed.

“So how long have you been interning for my father?”

Grant lit up. “Three summers now. I have loved working for Governor Torres and his staff. It’s been such a wonderful experience, and I’ve learned more there than I ever could in a classroom.”

“Is that what you want to do after we graduate? Go into politics?”

“Absolutely. I already have a loose plan that takes me from graduate school all the way to my own governorship.”

“Wow,” I sighed. I probably looked like a lovesick puppy, but come on. The man had a life plan! What could be more attractive than ambition and motivation? Well, that key lime pie scent didn’t hurt…

Grant beamed under my obvious approval.

“What about you? Do you want to pursue something, or do you plan to start a family with your alpha?”

“Oh, um, both?” I got some approving nods from Grant. “I’ve been helping with my father’s charities for a few years, and I’d like to continue to do that. There are so many people who want to donate to good causes and just need direction, and the belief that their money and time are going to legitimate places, I believe I can make a difference.”

Grant reached across the table and placed his hand on mine. “That’s an incredible plan, Mia. Your father must be proud that you want to continue his legacy.”

I flipped my hand over so I was holding his. He was shocked, but his smile quickly took over, and his lime scent wrapped around me like a hug. Mine flooded the room in response.

“So,” I prompted, as we continued to hold hands. “Tell me more about yourself.”

The next two hours flew by with conversation flowing easily between us. Sometimes we held hands, sometimes we didn’t, but we probably always looked like lovestruck fools grinning at each other.

Like I predicted, Grant was exactly the kind of alpha I wanted as a mate. He was composed and logical, confident and considerate. Disciplined but not rigid. Ambitious but not aggressive. And very handsome. I could see his face on the campaign signs that he dreamed about.

“Would you like me to walk you back to your dorm?” Grant asked as he threw away my trash for me.

I gave him a coy smile. “Actually, I’d love that.”

“I’d love it too.” He grabbed our coats and helped me into mine, then held out his elbow for me. I looped my arm through, and we slowly headed across the snow-covered campus.

When we reached my front door, he spun me so we were face-to-face, then wiped some snowflakes off my cheeks and slid his hands around to cup my jaw. There was no mistaking what he was planning next.

He leaned in until I could feel his breath on my lips. “I had a wonderful time tonight, beautiful omega, and I’d love to court you again.”

“Yes,” I whispered, and then he lightly pressed his lips to mine.

When he leaned back, I leaned forward, wanting more. He chuckled at me, causing me to blush. I wasn’t usually so forward.

“Next time, Omega. Goodnight.” He placed another light kiss on my forehead before heading back out.
