He was confused about my emphasis on friend, but Will heard me loud and clear. He had misread the situation between Tanner and me. I heard him punch the wall behind us as we walked out of the hallway.Brute.

I turned to my rescuer once we were clear of the hallway. “Thanks for checking on me, Grant, but I don’t actually need an escort back to Tanner. I’ll be fine.”

“Are you sure?” He glanced back toward the hallway. “I don’t mind taking a few extra minutes to make sure you’re safe.”

Seriously?Swoon.I glanced over to where I could see Tanner talking to Hunter. It really wouldn’t be necessary. I let out a sigh.

“Yes, but thank you again. I’ll see you around.” I gave him a grateful smile and started to walk off.

“See you soon,” he replied. I turned back, confused, but he simply smiled before walking off.

Chapter Twelve

CEDAR: Courting date with Alpha Grant Moore. Sunday 6pm. Solid Ground Cafe. To confirm text YES. To decline text NO.

Grant’s“seeyousoon”comment made way more sense when my phone pinged with the alert from CEDAR. A courting date? I didn’t remember his scent from last night, but I was so worked up over Will that I must’ve missed it. I’m surprised he didn’t say anything.

“He’s just so boring,” Anna whined while I finished getting ready.

“We don’t even really know him yet,” I defended. “We’ve just seen him around father’s office.”

“Isn’t that enough to know he’s boring?” We both rolled our eyes at each other.

“I’m hoping it’s a good match. He’s everything I hoped for in a mate.”

“Itseemslike he is. You just said you don’t even really know him yet!”

I smacked my glossed lips in the mirror. “That’s what the Season is for!” I blew a kiss to a shocked Anna and slipped out the door.

I couldn’t help but notice my own self confidence and sexuality starting to blossom since my designation revealed. I was enjoying getting dressed up for these dates and feeling wanted by the alphas. I hadn’t dated much before the Season because it didn’t feel like it was a good decision. Although, as I thought about my last interaction with Will, it didn’t seem like I was making too many good decisions now either.

Tonight would be different.

It was snowing again this evening as I walked toward town. The falling flakes gave everything a fresh, glittering shine, and it gave me a good feeling about this date. It was going to be a fresh start with a new alpha.

Solid Ground Cafe was a small coffee shop and cafe on the downtown square. Known for its expansive toppings bar, students and townies flocked here in the winter to enjoy a personalized coffee or cocoa.

A strap of gold bells jingled when I opened the large wooden door. The smell of coffee and cinnamon hit me as I walked in, and I briefly lamented that I hadn’t met an alpha with those scents.

I looked around but didn’t see Grant yet, so I shook off my coat and hung it on the rack by the door. I was standing near the counter debating between a cappuccino and a mocha when I heard my name.

“Mia!”

I turned to greet Grant, and as he approached, his key lime pie scent swirled around me.

Whoa. Maybe that was why I didn’t notice it the other night at the arcade. It was almost identical to Will’s. And I loved it just as much.

“Grant, hi!”

He stepped up close to me, and I was surprised when I let him.

“Have you been here long?” He ran a hand down my arm in greeting, and when I leaned into him, he beamed.

“Not at all. I was just deciding what to get. I was debating between a few, but now that you’re here, your scent makes me want to add a splash of coconut cream, maybe to a latte?” As I considered that, he gave me an odd look.

“Coconut cream?”

“Yeah, you’ve never had key lime pie topped with little toasted coconut flakes? Mmm. Delicious.” I winked at him.Winked!Who was I?
